Merge proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was to merge the publication information into List of Amalgam Comics publications and the characters into List of Amalgam Comics characters. The main reasons are the majority of articles are derived from one or two comic book, not enought notability and there is a cruel lack of sources to verify the information. <discussion> The specific characters/titles appeared once or twice each. While Amalgam itself is notable, every title individually isn't. Duggy 1138 (talk) 03:08, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
OK, so why don't we merge all of Image's comics, or possibly merge both of DC or Marvel's comics into one article with one sentence or less for each major character? In all seriousness, yes some of the less notable articles can be downsized. But for what reason is this establishment fusing every article into each other. Maybe Lobo the Duck could be fused into this article, you know with no photo and little more than just a reference, but not Dark Claw. Its article even states that it's one of the most memorable of the Amalgam characters, and why wouldn't he be? He has the training, gadgets, and discipline of Batman with Wolverine's unbreakable Adamantium skeleton and healing factor. Soon the entire site will be one page of info with no images unless we start to put our foot down somewhere. This may be an odd place to start, but this is a necessity. - Support - The material in the for the various articles listed in Category:Amalgam Comics characters and its sub cast is derived from either single comics (most cases) or snippets from a single story arc. The majority of the articles are almost full plot/appearance summaries peppered with unsourced speculation.
Side note on images: A list article can, within reason use images. That doesn't mean that every character or title in a cleaned up list will have one, but it does mean the notables will. Thought, in this case that will be the comic book covers, not the individual characters. - J Greb (talk) 16:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Support This does need to be done, although I still think it would have been better to have merged to only the articles dealing with the title first as a first step before this big merger. Its possible doing it this way that stuff will be left off that should be kept.
That said if it has to be done this way then so be it. Stephen Day (talk) 01:50, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Suggestion: As per the Wikiproject Comics talk, I think the choice is seen to be between cutting down the current plethora of pages to around 20 (and then further as need be) or to around 3, (and then splitting subsequently as need be). Radical (continued) streamlining, rather than demolition and - the potential of - rebuilding.
Seems to me that the most sensible way around to go 58 to 20 to ? rather than 58 to 3 to ?, since it will be clearer after 20 how much further "weeding" is required. Certainly J Greb (and others') support for the three (Amalgam/characters/publications) pages is persuasive, but I feel that the intermediary step would be a better way to proceed. (For example, that step gives time to imply, for example, that Amazon probably doesn't require its own page; while Speed Demon may.) ntnon (talk) 20:15, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Support, support, support. These characters lack independent notability or any long-term value. Doczilla STOMP! 08:39, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
If I might make a suggestion. Perhaps only those characters lacking general notability (i.e. the Challengers of the Fantastic or Thorion) could be placed here, and the more significant of characters (i.e. Dark Claw, Super Soldier etc.) be given separate entries. When I say significant, I mean that there's enough notability and information for them to be treated seperately. As I created the Lobo the Duck entry myself, I'll be sorry to see it removed, but better a single, tidy article with a handful of off-shoots than a large clutter of small, one-line articles. Complete Support. Every single one of these characters deserves an article... on Fanwankipedia. But the notion that any of them are notable enough to warrant an article on Wikipedia is rather laughable. Dark Claw is "significant"? He's a throwaway self-parody who appeared in exactly two comic books ever. The sidekick in a series that gets cancelled after 10 issues is more notable. Heck, some random patient who shows up in two episodes of ER is more notable. The current article fails to establish any notability; it's just an in-universe regurgitation of whatever fictional "facts" could be gleaned from those two comics, and its only cited source is... a fansite. - 99.24.251.105 (talk) 14:49, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Obv it's supported, can we merge the pointless ones? - Some guy, 9:14PM EST, Sept 22 2k9
Magneto?
[edit]The this Magneto the same as the X-men Character? If so, why does the subsection have a redirect at Magneto (disambiguation)? Chrisrus (talk) 22:58, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- It is not the same. Amalgam Comics was a collaboration between DC Comics and Marvel Comics, in which the two comic book publishers merged their characters to create new ones. Magneto is amalgamation of DC's Will Magnus and Marvel's Magneto (Erik Lehnsherr) see http://amalgam.wikia.com/wiki/Magneto if you want to know more about the character. --Crazy runner (talk) 05:22, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
