otomy
[edit]ther is no medical term "otomy" the correct term ist tomia (tomy) the "o" is just a binding vowel to connect this word to the organ to be cut, e.g. Bronchus and tomie -> bronchotomy. This is true for other comopsite words like bronchoscopy ... --Uwe Gille (talk) 09:13, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Several usages of "otomy" as a free morpheme -- as a medical term beyond merely a suffix -- can be seen in this Google Scholar query. Tomy and tomia are no more medical terms than otomy -- all are typically suffixes.
- But try a Google search for tomy, tomia and otomy. Only the last returns relevant results; thus "otomy" is the preferable morpheme for this template. Emw (talk) 02:14, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Changing from List of surgeries by type to List of -ostomies
[edit]I am now doing this change because there are already a separate articles on List of -ectomies and List of -otomies, which are much more comprehensive than the corresponding sections in this articles. There was no such article on -ostomies though, so this article will now focus on that. Mikael Häggström (talk) 16:38, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
Suspicious entries
[edit]There are a number of entries with unusual names in the urogenital section of this list that were added in a batch in this revision. None of these surgeries produce any results other than this page when googled. These entries seem suspicious (especially as they are in the urogenital section, which one would imagine is especially prone to vandalism) but I am holding back as I am not especially knowledgeable in this area. Would anyone with more access to medical literature than myself be able to check on the validity of these surgeries? Thanks - Naztharune (talk) 17:11, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
