Improper title
[edit]Lisa Miller is a Psychologist with many publications in this area. She does not have a single publication as a parapsychologist, hence the title page is incorrect and should read "Psychologist". A REDIRECT to an appropriate page would be merited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drjanehighgate (talk • contribs) 03:33, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Really, a move is what is asked for: the content and history would need to be moved to a new title, after which a redirect would be left here. Let's see if anyone responds, and then we'll see what can be done. Drmies (talk) 15:27, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Note. I have deleted two pages created by Drjanehighgate, one an isolated talk page in which she advocates what she advocates here, and one a page that duplicates this article page but with (clinical psychologist) as the parenthetical. Please do NOT create any more pages like that while a move to a new name is being discussed.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:36, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- The talk page was left over, so to speak, and I had removed a speedy template since it provided a rationale for her actions. Bbb, I gotta run off and teach--would you be so kind as to recuperate her argument from that deleted talk page and paste it below? It might be a conversation starter. Thanks! Sorry - should have looked at the history. This is the main, at least partly non-duplicative, comment Drjanehighgate made there redacted for the unnecessary legal threat stuff:
The previously established page "parapsychologist" has a page title which is (Redacted) potentially "vandalism." Dr. Lisa Miller is a well respected and prolific scholar in mainstream Psychology, as shown in the references. She does not have a single publication in the area of parapsychology. There is no grounds for that (Redacted) title, and thus a REDIRECT to a page with an accurate title of Psychologist is factually correct(Redacted). At very least the page with the title parapsychologist must be deleted.

Hello- I am Lisa Miller- and I am certain that I am Clinical Psychologist, not a parapsychologist. To be factually accurate, the title of my page should read Clinical Psychologist. MY JOB IS AS DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, TEACHERS COLLEGE. For fifteen years I have worked in the field of Clinical Psychology, in a Clinical Psychology Program, and I have written and published extensive scholarship within the area of Clinical Psychology. I have used the scientific method of clinical research, only, there is no published work that fits the methodology of parapsychology. Newsaltandpepper (talk) 08:55, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've made this move. It seems clear from sources that she is known as a psychologist, and that is her academic title. As the subject appears to have requested the move, it seems appropriate per WP:BLP to do it without a drawn out discussion. Fences&Windows 09:28, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Sourcing
[edit]This article needs better sourcing. Reliable sourcing would provide a basis for prose as well as demonstrate the subject is in fact notable. Namely, coverage that is substantially about the subject seems to be lacking. Applicable notability guidelines include WP:BASIC biographical criteria as well as those tailored specifically for WP:ACADEMICs. Below are some links that might lead to such sources:

References removed
[edit]- I've removed one longstanding citation to a work that appears not to mention Lisa Miller; the one Miller cited in Wondrous Events: Foundations of Religious Belief appears to be a completely different person's work: Introduction to Collective Behavior by David L. Miller (see p. 268). Cheers. JFHJr (㊟) 23:20, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- I've also removed a cites to dead, unarchived acorn news releases, after having checked two archives. Given the quality of citations that has existed, I have reason to doubt their authenticity and application here. In addition, I removed a cite to Miller, Lisa Jane (2008-06-12). "TC's Lisa Miller to Appear in A&E Documentary Series". Teachers College - Columbia University: News. because 1) the publisher, an associated university, is not particularly reliable to demonstrate any due weight (see WP:PRIMARY); 2) because citations to this writer, the subject herself, should be avoided, especially in a self-aggrandizing manner (see WP:BLPSPS, WP:BLPPRIMARY); and 3) because it is essentially a press release for an upcoming television series before it had occurred (see WP:CRYSTAL). If the subject's involvement in an A&E series is noteworthy, someone unrelated will have noticed and given some coverage indicating its import, and after it had become a fact.
