Merger proposal
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians! I'm proposing merging Lionel with this page, Lionel (disambiguation), so that the list of people with the given name 'Lionel' are included in this disambiguation page, along with companies and places with the same name. I understand that Wikipedia:WikiProject_Anthroponymy likes to have an article on every given name, but in this case, Lionel just lists the people with that name, and doesn't have any information on the name's origin, etc. I believe this makes it confusing, as right now it is kindof acting as a second disambiguation page just for names. I have added merger tags to both articles. Please discuss below! Daybeers (talk) 19:37, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- A merger could result in more convenience for readers at this stage, but the moment someone decides to add any encyclopedic content about the name, then the merge will need to be undone. – Uanfala (talk) 13:29, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
- True, but I think possibly having to undo the merge later is still a better option than the situation now. Daybeers (talk) 21:11, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose; most readers searching for Lionel would be looking for the given name, so I think that its reasonable that a name list exists as the main page, keeping a separate DAB page. Klbrain (talk) 22:02, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Requested move 30 November 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. Good arguments were made on both sides of this. There is a reason to believe the name has longevity, but it also is not necessarily the primary topic, just by age alone. ngrams and the diversity of options for PTOPIC here are very persuasive to the discussion participants, as is the idea that other names exist which may be PTOPIC, though DABNAME applies. The least harm is done to the project (and policy adhered) by making the DAB the primary article. Hit me up at my talk if you disagree with my close. – No clear primary topic, the given name has 453 views but Lionel, LLC has 2,797, Lionel Corporation has 2,754, Lionel, Lewis has 19, Lionel (bridge) has 7 and Lionel Town, Jamaica has 50[[1]]. Google results are also split between the given name (mostly Lionel Messi) and trains, Images mainly shows Messi and Books is split but the trains come up 1st. There is also a surname, d:Q37554337 but we don't yet have anyone here with the name on EN but once we do Lionel (surname) should probably exist separately rather than moving this to Lionel (name) and having it for both. - Support move per nomination. Lionel doesn't seem like the primary topic. --The Tips of Apmh 18:29, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
- Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 19:30, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. The given name is the clear primary topic by long-term significance. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:09, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Lionel Messi is extremely well known, and there are about ten other people with more page views than the train companies. The DAB is basically just the name and the model train company, and that's not reason enough to move the DAB page to primary. User:力 (powera, π, ν) 01:57, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- It is unlikely that a reader would type "Lionel" into the search bar and expect to be taken to an article on Lionel Messi (hence why MOS:DABNAME says he shouldn't be listed at Lionel (disambiguation)), so it's not really a factor in determining the ptopic here. Colin M (talk) 04:57, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- Support If the name has so much more long-term significance, why does it get so many fewer pageviews (despite the advantage of being the ptopic)? Lionel Corporation is far older than the internet, it's not some flash-in-the-pan pop single or something. Colin M (talk) 05:40, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- Support. The Lionel name article is not an article. There is literally no content there about the name; it's a disambiguation page with 98% partial title matches. — AjaxSmack 06:46, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
