Trying to trace 'Preoccupied' name
[edit]The original Leiodon is stated as Leiodon Swanson, 1839, a fish of family Tetradontidae (pufferfish) at dinosaur.com , but I cannot find this in an online search. The shark mentioned on Wikipedia is the Greenland Shark (Somniosus microcephalus), with L. echinatum Wood, 1846 is a junior synonym. 'leiodon' is also the species name for the Smooth Blacktip Shark (Carcharhinus leiodon), but that wouldn't have any relevance as to preoccupation. At the moment, I'm stumped, although I'm leaning towards Leiodon being a junior synonym of one of the modern genera of Tetradontidae. CFLeon (talk) 20:06, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
