Linux version crashes
[edit]Need to point out that this is an unstable software to a total uselessness. The Linux version - of 2020-april-12 - crashes when called from the Windows version. Or from another SIP phone under Windows. The Linux version also crashes when the call is picked up in the Windows version. (of Linphone itself) The Linux version is still called 'alpha' - after so many years. Why is it called Linux-phone?
- Allow me to quote some of the latest issues from their list - 2023 March:
- Linphone 5.x ignores IP address and port of a contact
- SMS Activation impossible on a landline
- mediastreamer-error-Could not open display :0
- Linphone Desktop 4.3.0 in a VNC remote session fails
- Nice little bug in linphone client f. Windows
- TypeError: Value is undefined
- no longer able to connect to sip server
- remote_ring in linphonerc of appimage being overwritten
- No ring tone
- Upgrading to the 5.0.0 or 5.0.2 AppImage breaks incoming audio
- opus: corrupted stream
- Linphone, there is no audio and video on 5G network
- Assistant setup failure - continue dump on home screen
- Can't override Turn/Stun server in account settings.
- Linphone CLI Auto Answer Not Working in Bullseye
- Delete my linphone account because my registration failed
- Linphone Bug working with Asterisk and the Free PBX
- Win64 versions of Linphone run very slowly, un-useable for answering calls
- linphone-desktop dumps core on Debian testing
As to the "Why is it called Linux-phone?" :
because
- it's committed by *nix 'command-line-warriors'
- community does ALL testing
- it doesn't have a proper GUI - CLI warriors hate the GUI, their superiority is threatened by it
- it doesn't work
PS: I don't have Windows at all; programming on *nix ... :) IE: I see first hand, how poor *nix desktop apps are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.70.29.185 (talk) 01:43, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
Application is NOT NON-FREE SOFTWARE
[edit]The application is free software. Quit trolling Wikipedia, EugeneZelenko. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rj.amdphreak (talk • contribs) 01:12, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Technical details
[edit]While I'm able to understand all of what is said, I'm pretty confident not everyone would feel that way. Too many links to unnecessary information and too little other information on the application itself. It's written from the POV of a *nix crowd and as such won't help other people understand the application or reasons of usage any better. Compare Yate or Mumble.
- I agree. Moreover, the support for codecs is constantly changing (the current information is incomplete, for instance). Saturnalia0 (talk) 00:54, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
