(Copying across a comment which was posted on my Talk page as it would seem to belong more properly here.)
- Hello, I work for Linda Colley and she's requested that the 1993 Opinions lecture be removed from the wiki page as she feels there are far more recent, relevant pieces of journalism that could be included on the page.
Thank you to a new editor for drawing attention to this. I have a self-declared WP:COI (as indeed so does the new editor, as they say they are employed by Linda Colley) so there are better places and people within Wikipedia to discuss this. My advice to the new editor (who does not yet have a user page or a talk page): before continuing to remove the content please first look at some of the relevant guidance as to how to deal with such matters on Wikipedia, for example:-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Autobiography
and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Contact_us/Article_subjects
If you now raise Linda Colley's position in the right place on Wikipedia (the articles above have some suggestions on this), I am sure other editors will be happy to help. Given my WP:COI I will state a position here but then withdraw from further comment:
- --My edit was simply to return content to the page which seems encyclopaedic and notable.
- --Linda Colley is not disputing that she gave this distinguished television lecture, so I am unclear as to why reference to it should be removed. Professor Colley may well have expressed other views on other occasions but the way to deal with that is not by concealing this speech but rather to add (properly sourced) additional content.
- --Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the event itself. I am not aware that Professor Colley has before or since had another opportunity to address the British nation for an uninterrupted half an hour on peak time national television. It seems a bit odd to want to remove this notable fact.
So saying, enough from me: due process suggests other editors should continue this discussion in another place and I would suggest that you and/or Professor Colley try that. Thank you again for your interest. AnOpenMedium (talk) 09:14, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
