Clean up day will begin in late March and April. This is are very busy days and yet we have a lot of fun. We are going to enlarge the Friendship Garden and supplies well be needed and volunteers. We are designing and building a informational kiosk displaying the history of the Historic Lincoln Highway, the Historic Bridge and the Memorial Park. Travelers will be able to locate business, lodging, eating places and historic sites. There will be maps and direction to our lakes, camp grounds, American Legions, VFW, Eagles club and other recreational sites. This project will require time for research and organization and designers to create and work out the details for the kiosk. Then comes the construction crew, builders and contractors to build the kiosk. So excited about this wonderful project and how it will improve the Memorial Park and bring in travelers to our two cities of Tama and Toledo. Friday May 15th the Memorial Park will host the open ceremony to the Annual Lincoln Highway Bridge Festival with speakers including President Abraham Lincoln. A youth group will sing, the Tama Legion Honor Guard, Lincoln, Boy Scouts and Campfire girls will raise the flag and site the Pledge of Allegiance. The Shiner Band out of Des Moines will entertain folks with their special music. Then folks will move to downtown Tama for many more actives from the ice cream social to wine tasting. We invite everyone to join in this ceremony that acknowledges the Famous Lincoln Highway and Lincoln Highway Bridge. In the fall we will participate in the coast to coast across the United States Buy-Way Yard Sale. This is a fun time and a good fundraiser. Vendors, craftsmen, collectors, antique will be selling their goods. Their will be food vendors and we will be selling the famous Lincoln Dog, hot dog, that you must try. If any vendor is interested in joining us and want to put us on their calendar just contact me and I will send you the forms, time date and place. We can have a lot of enjoyment listening to the music, shopping and meeting new people and saying hi to old friends. This is a very fun time. Well that is enough for now. Just contact me for further information and questions. I am always looking for volunteers and meeting new people.Be kind to yourself and others, Sincerely, Jeannie Sieck, Iowa Lincoln Highway Association Tama County Consul 515-520-1773 mary.jean15@Hotmail.com
