Ascertaining copyright of new images
[edit]There may or may not be some copyright issues with some of the new images. I've emailed the webmaster of a site that has a similar image as one of the ones shown here, just to check it out (better safe than sorry). Will revert the page if it turns out there's any problem. -- All the best, Nickj (t) 05:19, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for following up. I have done a small amount on the formatting. This article does need tidying, wikifying, copyediting. There are too many photos really and they are not captioned. I do not believe their use is justified if they are not copyright free.--A Y Arktos 07:32, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Both the text and the images appear to be significant copyright violations of http://www.ourshire.com.au/suburbs/ the Lilli Pilli page. Is that who you are following up?--A Y Arktos 10:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. I'll include the text of the email below (which I should have done before):
From: Nick J Sent: Tuesday, 31 January 2006 4:09 PM To: <contact email address listed on the www.ourshire.com.au site, but omitted here to prevent spam> Subject: Copyright infringement of your images from Lilli Pilli, or not? Hello, I do some stuff on the Wikipedia, and today (2.5 hours ago) someone updated the Lilli Pilli article with various photos ( please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilli_Pilli%2C_New_South_Wales ) A quick google ( http://images.google.com.au/images?q=Lillipilli2.jpg ) showed at least one of images those as looking like a verbatim copy of the one on your site ( http://www.ourshire.com.au/ ). Note that I'm not saying you've copied wikipedia - quite the reverse, in fact. The person that uploaded these images has tagged them as {{CopyrightedFreeUse}}, which basically means that "The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose." Can I please ask you to confirm whether this is correct? If it is, and we are allowed to use it/copy it/modify it/etc, then that's great, and nothing needs to be done. If not (i.e. the person is either genuinely mistaken, or is blatantly ripping off your photos without permission), then please let me know, and I will take steps to get that infringement of your copyright removed from the Wikipedia. All the best, Nick.
Also, Dolans Bay, New South Wales appears to have the same problem, as mentioned to me by AYArktos. -- All the best, Nickj (t) 01:23, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Given the lack of response to queries I have started to tag images uploaded by the user with {{PUIdisputed}}--A Y Arktos\talk 00:16, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- now listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images--A Y Arktos\talk 01:27, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Deleted images
[edit]Please do not delete original photographs from articles. Contibutors go to great efforts to obtain these photos and in many cases are not available anywhere else on the internet. Some articles may contain more images than others but when more information is provided on those articles, the photos can be evenly distributed throughout. J Bar 01:06, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
