Distribution map problems

[edit]

I've tried repeatedly to get the GeoGroup template to display the locations on Google and Bing maps. It's handy because monastic assets tend to consist of portfolios of land in scattered places, often obscure even to readers familiar with the territory. I've managed it on the Haughmond Abbey article but simply can't get this one to work. There's probably a syntax eror somewhere, and it's probably staring me in the face, but I can't spot it. Can anyone help? Sjwells53 (talk) 09:07, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just found that changing usecache=1 to usecache=0 in the search immediately produces a perfectly good Google distribution map. I've flushed my own browser cache, so I assume this cache is something else. Perhaps the whole thing works fine for other users.Sjwells53 (talk) 16:52, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Finally added section parameter to geogroup and it works fine. Still not sure why, but it seems a good parameter to use in many cases. Sjwells53 (talk) 11:19, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In-line references

[edit]

The article does not have sufficient references and I'm aiming to rectify that over the next week or two. The VCH entry is a good summary and its sources have become much more easily available over the last year or so, with material by Gosse, Eyton, Blakeway, etc recently scanned by Internet Archive. I'll be making only modest expansions of the text but adding references to the underlying sources and possibly other useful aids, e.g. a family tree. The whole page is far too long and detailed, with way too much information it is not an easy or an enjoyable read. I suggest instead of trying to add even more quotes and refs, you simplify the whole thing and cut it down considerably. It’s not supposed to be a thesis !! 188.95.46.118 (talk) 22:51, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
