LightSquaredLigado Networks – LightSquared rebranded itself in 2016 and the company is now known as Ligado Networks. Looking at this from a WP:COMMONNAME perspective, Ligado Networks is the name used in media coverage since the company rebranded. The name change was reported on in The Wall Street Journal, FierceWireless and Wireless Week, among others. As the company is no longer known as LightSquared (recent coverage uses Ligado Networks in the first instance), I suggest moving this article from its former name to Ligado Networks, while keeping LightSquared as a redirect to Ligado Networks. I have a financial conflict of interest since I work with Beutler Ink on behalf of Ligado Networks via The Glover Park Group; as I abide by the "bright line", I won't edit live articles. I'd be grateful if someone could review this and move LightSquared to Ligado Networks if you agree that it's appropriate. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:03, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Small updates to article following name change

Hi there, as mentioned above I'm here in my capacity with Beutler Ink on behalf of Ligado Networks (via The Glover Park Group) to assist editors in updating this entry. As editors have noted above, the most recent events of the article are several years old. Much has changed since then, including the company's name and controlling ownership. Additionally, the live article discusses aspects of LightSquared's business in the incorrect tense. Following the article being moved to "Ligado Networks", I'm proposing a new introductory sentence incorporating the company's new name, updates to the infobox and changes to verb tense in certain areas so that the article overall reflects its new name.

Introduction
Extended content

I propose replacing the existing introduction with the following (changes shown in green):

Proposed changes to introduction

Ligado Networks is an American satellite-communications company developing a hybrid satellite-terrestrial network to support 5G applications. The company was formerly known as LightSquared, which sought to develop a wholesale 4G LTE wireless broadband communications network integrated with satellite coverage across the United States using a block of frequencies located near the band used by the Global Positioning System (GPS). However, the issue of interference (using high-powered ground transmitters in spectrum intended for low-powered signals from satellites) caused problems.

On February 5, 2015, a federal district court judge in Manhattan dismissed many, but not all, of the claims in litigation wherein LightSquared and its investors had sued various GPS companies alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment for "selling GPS receivers designed to trespass on LightSquared’s spectrum.”[1] [2]

On February 14, 2012, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) moved to bar LightSquared's planned national broadband network after being informed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), "the federal agency that coordinates spectrum uses for the military and other federal government entities," that "there is no practical way to mitigate potential interference at this time."[3][4] LightSquared challenged the FCC's action.

Despite negotiating with creditors,[5] on May 14, 2012, LightSquared filed for bankruptcy.[6] It has since been rebranded as Ligado Networks.[7]

Introduction has mostly been updated by Hangingonthetelephone. Could someone take a look at the sentence "LightSquared is challenging the FCC's action." and update the tense there, per the draft above? Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:55, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
Also to add to the above, the current description of the company is not quite right and I wonder if editors might look again at the proposed language initially suggested, describing the company as a "satellite communications company". This is supported by sourcing such as this recent Nature piece. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI)
Done This has been done, thanks to Dormskirk for reviewing and updating. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:20, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Infobox
Extended content

There are several updates that can be made here to bring the details in line with the new name, and reflect most recent information:

  • Replace LightSquared with Ligado Networks
  • Under Owner, replace Philip Falcone, Harbinger Capital Partners with Centerbridge Partners LP, Fortress Investment Group LLC, and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (controlling owners)[8]

  • Under Parent company, Harbinger Capital Partners should be deleted, as this story on FierceWireless says Harbinger Capital Partners lost control of the company during its bankrupty proceedings.
  • The company's new website is ligado.com.

As mentioned above on this page, I abide by the "bright line" and won't edit the live article. I'd appreciate it if editors could review my request and move the changes into the article as appropriate. Although I'd like to make further edit requests in the future for other changes, including a new logo for the infobox, this seems like a good place to get started. I'm also interested to hear what editors think about updating this article in general, if anyone would like to share their thoughts. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:51, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Update: I've marked the completed sections of this request as {{done}} and collapsed them above. If anyone is able to look at the remaining items, especially the infobox updates, that would be much appreciated! Thanks again to Hangingonthetelephone for making the updates so far. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:55, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

In addition to the updates suggested above, I have also uploaded the Ligado Networks logo to be added to the article's infobox: File:Ligado_Networks_logo.png

As noted above, since I do have a conflict of interest here, I hope that someone can add this into the infobox in place of the current Lightsquared logo if appropriate. Perhaps the Lightsquared logo can be moved elsewhere within the article to show the historical logo / branding? Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:16, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Pinging CookieMonster755 who completed the move request for this article. Would you be interested to assist here, too? I'm putting together extra updates for this article, but these minor tweaks and new logo will help tidy up the space until more about the company's current operations can be added. Thanks in advance for considering! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:28, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
Also pinging, Andrewa: I see you closed the move request, thanks so much for that. If you have a moment, could you add the new logo? The file will be deleted if not added to the article by Sunday since it is fair use. I'd also appreciate if you were able to look at any of the other tweaks to the article. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:53, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
I can see that Hangingonthetelephone has been making some edits today, so just wanted to let them know that I've reuploaded the Ligado Networks logo, here: File:Ligado_Networks_logo.png. Just in case they're able to also add this. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:23, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks so much, Dormskirk! Would you mind taking a quick peek at the infobox? Harbinger Partners is still listed as the parent company but should be deleted, and the website link can be updated, per my notes above. Thanks again, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:06, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
