Talk:Liga ng mga Barangay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the vast majority of time I hear the term " Association of Barangay Captains" or ABC Chairman. That seems to be the most common name. Should it be the name per WP:CommonName? I rarely hear "Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas" used and I never hear "League of Barangays of the Philippines". Remember the test is NOT the official name but the common name -- the name that people will the web for. For instance see the Big Dig or Bill Clinton. --Bruce Hall (talk) 05:13, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 1 April 2022

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved - No !votes against, and no obvious policy reasons to deny the move. Arguments based on WP:COMMONNAME appears well-grounded. (non-admin closure) FOARP (talk) 14:02, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

League of Barangays in the PhilippinesLiga ng mga BarangayWP:UE states that use the most prevalent name used in English language sources. That currently, for this organization, is "Liga ng mga Barangay". 1320 Google searches for news vs 85 for "Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas" and 3 for "League of Barangays in the Philippines". The current article title actually is least used name, and is an abomination of Taglish if I ever saw one. If the suggestion is too "not English" for you, "Association of Barangay Captains", its old name from decades ago, is a runner-up in Google search results for news, with 834 results. It still is used, such as in this report. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:27, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NGrams for those who are interested. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:55, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. There are only 289 results for the proposed title (the initial number is just an estimate, you need to look at the last page of results), but does appear to be the common name in English. I do wonder whether it would be more useful to our readers to use a descriptive English title, such as "League of Barangays", but that is not the current policy.
