what factor determines the capacity of a life boat in terms of crew been recue or even fire drills.208.131.187.83 21:40, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Adrian

I think the SOLAS and LSA require set amount of square footage of floor area per person to determine the capicity. I also think it is not much. I remember a book about a solo- cross Atlantic sailor have his sailboat sink and he finished voyage in his liferaft, maybe rated for 7 people- and he complained about lack of space. Article needs Work

Lifeboat and Liferaft searched return the same page. Section on Modern Lifeboard is actually what might be referred to as a Surfboat in the United States. Also the US Coast Guard Motor Lifeboats referred to here are designed to be self-righting, will roll through 360 degrees and not capsized (or turn turtle (inverted))

I Dislike Modern Live boats section, but I did not modify- need s distunction from Surfboard added, factor that what is described here is what is shore based intended to go from shore to rescue crew from sinking or grounded vessel.

This article is confusing

I believe that a reader who is unfamiliar with the subject has several options on how to interpet many of the passages in this article. This is a good example of two different subjects with the same name, and they would be good candidates for disambiguation. I will endeavor to begin this process. The result of the proposal was no move. This is a matter of national varieties of English--Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 15:26, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

IMO, lifeboat has one primary meaning, currently at Lifeboat (shipboard), which should be moved here. Clarityfiend (talk) 18:24, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
