Herron and Kerr
[edit]Quote: "If the Lieutenant Governor becomes incapacitated while serving in the office of Governor, the next most senior judge of the Supreme Court is sworn in as the Administrator. This occurred in November 1973 when Sir Leslie Herron died suddenly while the Governor, Sir Roden Cutler was overseas. Sir John Kerr became the Administrator until Cutler was able to return." (highlight added)
- Question 1: Why November 1973? Herron died on 3 May 1973.
- Question 2: We show Kerr becoming Lieutenant Governor on 16 May 1974, only to relinquish it 11 days later, on 27 May 1974 (Laurence Street became LG on 28 June 1974). Why only 11 days? Furthermore, Kerr’s appointment as Governor-General to succeed Sir Paul Hasluck had been announced on 27 February 1974, so what was a Governor-General-designate doing being appointed to such an office? I very strongly suspect Kerr’s appointment as Lieutenant Governor occurred on 16 May 1973, not 16 May 1974. That would square nicely with Leslie Herron’s death on 3 May 1973.
- That still leaves the November thing above, which, again, I suspect should say May. Can anyone confirm these dates? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 06:09, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I've made these changes. If anyone can prove me wrong, please feel free. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 09:06, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
