The article currently includes a set of inscriptions given using a table (encoded in plain html) instead of the usual templates for translated quotes or even a proper wikitable. Such ersatz tables make WP less accessible for people who use screen readers.
Projethomere argues that this is necessary in order retain the "epigraphic writing engraved on the marble." This writing is (a) unlikely to be of much use to a non-specialist audience and (b) obvious to a specialist from the Greek text given. It is (c) not an accurate diplomatic transcription of what is engraved on the marble, anyway, since the current version of the WP page adds spaces, brackets, punctuation, and diaresis (which are not present on the stone) and replaces line breaks with "|" symbols. Anyone who isn't interested in ancient libraries needn't read this kind of article - just as anyone who doesn't like mathematics won't be looking for articles on mathematics - The epigraphic writing is important here because it gives a better idea of the reality of the site.
No, we write for a general audience not just people who know ancient Greek; this article is equally likely to be read by tourists visiting Athens, for example. Anyway, it's not giving "a better idea of the reality of the site": it has spaces, brackets, punctuation, and diaresis which are not present on the stones and it gives line breaks that are totally different from the actual stone.
It's a personal point of view - as someone who lives there, I'm in a better position to know the reality of the place, and tourists see two epigraphs in capital letters and not in small letters. Projethomere (talk) 00:31, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
