Two additions to the article have now been removed, with extreme prejudice on the part of the original compiler of the article. They are not up to Wiki standard and unworthy of the initial effort that has gone into researching this entry. They are not corroborated by any evidence; they express private opinion that does not adduce a single historical fact; if signed, they would be actionable as libellous and defamatory. The subject of the article was never in court for plagiarism nor, to our knowledge, has ever been accused of it in private. Testimony as to his gift as a translator of Russian literature from critics like John Updike should put a stop to that discussion; his gift as a writer has been attested to by no less exacting an observer than Saul Bellow. The claim that he is a plagiarist is as preposterous and vindictive as the accusation of “marginality.” What makes the latter particularly foolish is that it can be made with impunity about half the people with an entry in Wikipedia.Codogan (talk) 22:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Emigrated via Israel

[edit]

Removed "via Israel", based on a previous contributor's inaccurate conjecture. Lev Navrozov has never been to Israel or any of the countries of the Middle East.Codogan (talk) 16 March 2011

Rather mystified as to the accusation of "conjecture" given that the claim was cited explicitly to its source. Is there some reason your say-so ought to trump that, because otherwise I don't see how the removal can be justified. Regards, Skomorokh 20:31, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The source is uncorroborated. Moreover, the source is as obviously slapdash as the book's publisher. Thus, in the text fragment cited, Lev Navrozov is described as "a leading translator of English in Russia". Lev Navrozov never worked as a translator "of English"; he was a translator of Russian into English, a big difference that ensured he had virtually no competition in the field among his countrymen. Similarly, the author is factually wrong on the point at issue here. Codogan (talk) 18 March 2011 —Preceding undated comment added 00:38, 19 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]
