Achievements

[edit]

The whole awards section is removed for the following reasons:

  • 2003 - Centenary Medal
    • apparent duplicate of following
  • 2003 - Awarded the Centenary Medal for distinguished service to local government. [1]
    • the citation provided refers to a "A Highly Commended Award" issued by the Customer Service Institute of Australia, which is trivia anyway.
  • 2005,06 & 07 - Queensland Local Government Managers Australia Management Challenge, 1st in 2005,2006 and 3rd 2007
    • uncited
  • 2006 - Public Service Medal [2]
    • link provided does not work, and appears to be a self-reference anyway.
  • 2007 - Australasian Reporting Awards 2007 – Silver recognition for excellence in governance. [3]
    • citation provided makes no mention of Tyrell by name. The City of Thuringowa won the award apparently and if this is notable, that article is where this award should be mentioned.

To say "Below is a small list of some of the awards that Mayor Les Tyrell was presented with while Mayor of Thuringowa city" and include the detail in his own biography implies Tyrell won the awards personally. This is patently untrue. —Moondyne click! 14:49, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think TCR is referring to User talk:Thuringowacityrep#Les Tyrell and this and this. -- Mattinbgn\talk 00:25, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Mattinbgn, I see that the awards section was removed by yourself on abt 19 January and TCR reinstated again shortly after with an edit summary "This is NOT!!! election campaign material, it is a small list of his Achievements, just like if he was an actor, you would have a small list of what that person has done. i said to use my Talk page". I respectfully disagree with TCR for the reasons outlined above. He needs to provide a justification before reinstating. The section is completely ridiculous. —Moondyne click! 00:37, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

involvement in committees/groups

[edit]

chairman of the Breakwater Island Casino Community Fund, Townsville Enterprise Limited, Chairman of the Townsville/Thuringowa Disaster Management Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Willows Joint Sports Complex Board, Cowboys Community Benefit Fund, Thuringowa Crime Prevention Partnership, Director of the Townsville Entertainment Centre Venture, Director of the Pandora Foundation, board and committee member of NQ Water, Townsville/Thuringowa Joint Arrangements Committee, The Emergency Services Advisory Committee and an ex-officio member of the Council's Statutory Committees thoughtout Queensland is this really necessary? every Mayor and state politician is involved in numerous committees? hardly encyclopaedic to list them all, articles on politicians should be focussing on what makes them notable as per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BIO#Politicians Michellecrisp (talk) 01:30, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No it is not. Removed and tidied. —Moondyne click! 06:00, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Michellecrisp (talk) 06:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm surprised this isn't already in the article, but Tyrell is fairly high up in the Scouting hierarchy (the head person for the region), this is independent of his position as Mayor and I think is worthy of inclusion if we can find some details. If it's notable, fine for inclusion but things like Townsville/Thuringowa Joint Arrangements Committee? Michellecrisp (talk) 10:59, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
