Kinnunen and Lotus
[edit]Kinnunen was close to moving to Formula One already for the 1971 season. With the help of Jochen Rindt he was negotiating for a race seat with Team Lotus, which was controlling the series at the time and eventually won the World Constructors' Championship that season. After Rindt's sudden death at Monza, the negotiations came to a halt. According to Kinnunen, Bernie Ecclestone wanted him to drive for free.
- Ecclestone? I suppose it was Colin Chapman. Woodcote (talk) 19:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting. The ref says Ecclestone. I'm prety sure Ecclestone was Rindt's manager at that time, so perhaps he was involved in the negotiations through that connection? DH85868993 (talk) 02:05, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, Bernie was Rindt's manager. And if I remember well, in 1970, Bernie led the "Jochen Rindt Racing" (a Lotus Formula 2 team). So, perhaps Kinnunen was in talk with this team, not with F1 Team Lotus? Woodcote (talk) 08:15, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
