I think this needs to be restructured

[edit]

Currently the article is structured like this:

  1. A brief introductory paragraph
  2. Stuff about the Leningrad Cowboys in other films
  3. "Plot"
  4. "Trivia"

I find the "Plot" section particularly problematic. This is not a normal Hollywood movie. By itself the plot tells us nothing. You have to consider plot, style, language etc. together to get an idea of what it is like and why it is widely regarded as an important movie. Having a separate "Plot" section makes this difficult and therefore I think the article needs to be restructured.

For example, off the top of my head I know of two things that don't fit easily into the article as it is. One is that it was shot in Kaurismäki's characteristic deadpan style. The other is that all the speech of the "Russian" characters, which is subtitled into English (at least on the VHS copy I got hold of in the UK), is in fact Finnish, with the exception of the genuine Russian word "da". Unfortunately I don't have ready access to newspaper reviews of the film or academic papers about it (although I am sure there must be some) or I would rewrite the article myself. FWIW I personally consider the movie to be a study of blackness in which "blackness" is defined as everything that isn't WASP, including African Americans, Mexicans, Russians and Finns. Unfortunately I don't know whether anybody has written any papers about this. Ireneshusband 04:43, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

"The title came from the Marx Brothers film Go West (1940)" - how? The article doesn't say. Google throws up mirrors of the Wikipedia article and lots of autogenerated pages. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 21:31, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
