Romanization of name

Her name is mis-Romanized in Melty Blood as Len, that does NOT make it her name. Using the Romanization that Wikipedia is meant to use, her name is Ren. Most sources BUT Melty Blood support this, and that game is notorious for mis-Romanizing names such as Wallachia as Warakia. So it comes to this...do we follow the Hepburn Romanization standards set forth for Wikipedia, and list her as Ren, or do you go with the mis-Romanize of her name in one game? To give you a hint how I think it should go, remember the example set by Ganondorf of Zelda fame...the original game mis-Romanized his name as Gannondorf, yet everything else uses Ganondorf. While that may be true, one could argue over intentional names forever. Pokémon is plagued with examples of this. For example, one could create confusion with Kyogre. The Japanese name, カイオーガ, I've seen romanized two differen ways. The first seen in both a Ruby/Sapphire version strategy guide romanizes as Kyogre, while a checklist poster handed out by CoroCoro Comic also romanizes the name as Kyogre. Checking a Japanese patent office website during the whole Manafi/Manaphy fiasco, Kyogre is registered there as Kaiohga (or something similar). So is the intentional name of カイオーガ Kyogre or Kaiohga? Besides that, Len could be about as foreign as anyone else in the series. XenoL-Type 01:32, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, there's also the fact that other official sources tend to go with Ren over Len. Melty Blood is just a well-known example which uses Len, and because of that people take it as canon. Yet it was made by a doujin-soft group, and only later did Type-Moon integrate it into canon. It basically comes down to the question "Do you use the commonly accepted spellings, or do you use the MB ones just because they're in a well-known game?" Nezu Chiza 12:50, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

First off, the ones who originally decided the name 'Len' is wrong were unofficial sources; in other words, fans. There is NO evidence to the name 'Len' being wrong. In fact, MELTY BLOOD is the ONLY official source with a proper romanization for her name. Until such time as Nasu Kinoko announces that either is the proper, official romanization, the name 'Len', which is backed up by an official source, should be used.

Furthermore, 'Ren' is a Japanese name. The character herself, though created by a Japanese writer, is NOT ethnically Japanese. 'Len', despite being a mainly masculine name, is European, and it is actually rather common for female characters in Japanese media to have masculine names. Thei 14:50, 15 January 2007 (Pacific)
