Removing unsourced
This article clearly has sources. It has several sources. Most of the information is from Yee's website but that information can be trusted.
Spelling error?
I changed a part from "illegal shark fining trade" to "illegal shark finning trade". I have a hard time believing that sharks are, or have been fined, and if the trade is illegal, then the use of fines to curtail it should have been mentioned in the rest of the text.
Shrink down your picture
The picture you added takes up too much space, shrink it down or you will need to use { { - } } marks. But by all means add it in if it is an real picture. Since your are a photographer maybe you can help add in pictures to other politicans because I have trouble getting them for many pages I edited. Just wanted to make sure you were not an vandal because there was a lots of vandalsim on pages by random ip adress users.
Cs_California,
Yes, it is a real picture, my own work, with varification given to the wikipedia. As to the current picture my understanding is that we can not lift pictures, even from their public pages as all have copy rights on them. Thus, the reason that the wikipedia folks remove them. You have to provide them with the information as to the source and one can't provide others work.

Kowloonese,
I checked the official website and he doesn't have said symbol in hi photograph. I have Rev. back to the prior edit until you can provide the official photograph with symbols/language. Also, please note that one can only alter ones own photographs. What does this mean 余胤良? I noticed you added this to the Leland Yee page here:
Can you provide a translation and language. ThanksTalkAbout 19:46, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hi TalkAbout,
- I have noticed that you have been removing Leland Yee's Chinese name from his page. Your reason to remove info is pretty lame. You were asking for official proof that the Chinese name is really his name. You can simply cut and paste his Chinese name ( 余胤良 ) into Google and see what comes up in the search. You can start with google "image" search first. Then search again in the "web" section. Even if you cannot read Chinese, try to pay attention to the URL of the websites that use his name, some are Chinese Government sites and some are official Chinese governmental news agencies. Are those official enough for your taste?
- Leland Yee is a Chinese American and he represents the Chinese communities in the US and naturally he uses a Chinese identity under those situations. Leland Yee often runs his TV commercials on KTSF Channel 26 in San Francisco. He said his own name in Cantonese when asking the Chinese communities to vote for him. He is active in Chinese communities including numerous visits to China. He uses his Chinese name in all official Chinese newspapers. There is no doubt what his Chinese identity is. I strongly believe that a person's alternate identity is encyclopedic information. Removing such info is inappropriate.
- BTW, his official website does show his Chinese name. Follow the link to his official website, then click on the read oval labelled "Chinese" near the lower right corner. You should see his name on the page [1] or you may see all boxes. Also in one of your rev., your excuse for the edit was because the Chinese characters turned into boxes. The boxes you saw were common symptom when you are missing Chinese font on your machine. i.e. most wikipedia users who wish to see the native text can read those characters provided that their machines are set up correctly. You are just too selfish and self centered to delete information that you don't understand or setup to see. Kowloonese 03:29, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Problematic Biased Input
s california,
Point 1 The allegations you cite would be in disputed by the very article you cite:
"They (officers) see his car drive up, stop, prostitutes walk up to the window, and he leaves," says one police source. ``Who knows? He could be asking for directions.
Yee, however, insists that he never did have any contact with hookers, and that police simply mistook his Mitsubishi Eclipse. ``In the second incident, they said there was somebody they thought looked like me who may have been soliciting, Yee recounted. ``And I said, `No, I was coming from work.'
Point 2 Quoting Cs california: "However the San Francisco Chronicle got hold of his mug shot and the situation was publicized all over San Francisco" This was no where in the article cited and would appear conjecture. Point 3 Please check your spelling.
Point 4 Please don't use brackets that lead to no where.
Point 5 Please DO NOT change the name of the articles to suit your campaign efforts or biased opinion of Mr. Yee.
Point 6 The idea of an encyclopedia is to gain clear unbiased information in an easy to view manner. By all the useless re-arranging you make it hard for people to research and cause some delay in accessing said information.
Point 7 The photo you uploaded has been removed on two occasions by the wiki folks...see your talk page because you do not cite the source.

Problematic Biased Input Response
There was no articles that were given to me that were campaign bias that left nowhere. the picture was the only one available from an old chronicle newspaper I had. The empty braket sign { { - } } was to organize the article around the large picture that was imputed.
Point 4 Please don't use brackets that lead to no where Which brackets lead nowhere
If the information was "disputed" just change it and indicate why, you dont have to make a big deal about it. As you commented no "bias information should be added." I agree that bias information should not be added. The secondary bracket edits were to fix the links so they just summarized the information instead of showing the whole link. NO LINKS were Deleted.
Your link were listed in an unorganized manner displaying the adresses check links on other politican cites they were all organized

"By all the useless re-arranging you make it hard for people to research and cause some delay in accessing said information." (TalkAbout) How do people find stuff if it is unorganized?
You mentioned:
- Police and parent groups are concerned about violent video games causing children to be desensitized to violence. (why are you talking about parents when the article relates to Leland Yee?) They also believe that the video makers should be held accountable in these type of crimes. Others believe it is not the direct cause of the violence. (you indicated believed twice which is not factual. Why are they included. It still is unrelated to the main article leland yee. We are not writing about the relations between video games and desensitizing children) Both of Yee's bills passed with a wide support due in part by all the media attention and support by parents.(this last sentance should be added to the point with bill 1792)
Note that the bottem two points can be combined because they relate to Bill 1792 & 1793. Why was the combination reverted??? Death threats is a minor aspect and should be combined.
- Yee is the author of California Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793, which was signed into law on October 7, 2005, which would prohibit the sales of "ultra-violent" games in California to persons under the age of eighteen. Judge Ronald Whyte issued a preliminary injunction against the law on December 22 2005. Judge Whyte will soon deliver his final opinion on the constitutionality of California Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793
- Yee received death threat as a result of authoring Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793.
Questions that should be adressed
- Why were these point made significant since the article should be factual?
- Points I made still incorporated the non-bias information provided?
- Why was the combination of these points reverted?
Point 7 The photo you uploaded has been removed on two occasions by the wiki folks...see your talk page because you do not cite the source.
Which wiki folks removed this check history! the only people who modify it are not even members of wikipedia.
I have been modifying this page since 06:18, 30 May 2006 (check history) and the picture only has been taken off by non wikipedia users.
The picture sent in by TalkAbout does not cite the source either.
Point 3 Please check your spelling. You wrote:
- Finance Committee, he championed fiscal responsibility and accountability and established the largest "Rainy Day" budget reserve in San Francisco's history. Yee
Why start an new sentance with just yee and not finish it? Everyone makes mistakes just fix it and indicate that it is an minor edit. You dont have to wine about spelling when it is such an minor issue.
It seems like you copied this information through cutting and pasting.
It is not problematic if you can easily change it and write bias information read articles linked.
I don't know why you have to make such a big deal about such a small problem

It has come to my attention from an Newspaper editor that Yee's staff is editing the page. So there is biases similar to the Electronic Arts page where they try to delete pages with scandals to make themselves look good. Here are the points that need to be addressed, changed or included:

Feng shui
He tried to get the pseudoscience of feng shui enshrined into law in 2004. I wonder whether this caused enough of a stir to go under "controversies". If not, it might still be worth a mention somewhere. 86.131.101.174 (talk) 15:45, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia editing
I'm going to have to question the Controversies section regarding Wikipedia editing. Even lowly student interns like myself working in district offices (not capital offices) use computers that resolve to the California State Senate host. For example, I can go on any State Senators page, and edit out unflattering information, then imply (as this article does) that supports of that particular senator made those changes. --Rc251 (talk) 06:43, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia editing deleted information to points of criticism see: [2]. Campaign staff also cut & paste sections to make this article bias instead of NPOV. --Cs california (talk) 12:09, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- What evidence do you have that it was campaign staff? As I understand, that IP resolves to just the California State Senate. Couldn't it have been anyone from any office? Even someone who dislikes Leland Yee could purposely remove that section with the intent of starting controversy, no? --Rc251 (talk) 20:15, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Wikiscanner and articles mentioned above. And clearly you need to read up on IP/ISP --Cs california (talk) 05:22, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- You didn't answer my question. The IP that Wikiscanner resolved for that edit is just one from the entire block associated with the California State Senate. How can you pinpoint that being in Leland Yee's campaign staff as opposed to any other campaign that uses the California State Senate IP block? --Rc251 (talk) 19:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Video Game Controversies
Leland Yee has recently (July 22, 2009) filed an amicus brief in support of Governer Schwazenegger's appeal to the supreme court regarding the passing of a law which would criminalize the sale of violent video games into children. Would this be appropriate to add to the video game controversies section of the article or is it too insignificant? The brief includes statements like: “Moreover, there is a practical side in favor of the State’s effort. Parents can read a book, watch a movie or listen to a CD to discern if it is appropriate for their children. These violent video games, on the other hand, can contain up to 800 hours of footage with the most atrocious content often reserve for the highest levels and can be accessed only by advanced players after hours upon hours of progressive mastery.” On Petition for a Writ of Certiorari to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
The appeal has raised concerns that Californian legislators are spending time on pointless appeals on a law which has already been judged unconstitutional. Leland Yee files brief in attempt to revive gaming law -S7r4t4 (talk) 05:02, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Rewriting of SB249
Regarding the removal of my most recent edit I'm not sure I understand what is wrong with the content. I understand the previous concerns regarding OR but my last edit contains further details that come directly from the current law and the most recent amendment of SB249.

- I don't know which media outlets have covered what you are trying to add, but you need to start with that. Make the proposed edit here on the Talk page and gain consensus. What you are doing now constitutes original research. Plus, YouTube almost never can be considered a reliable source. Dave Dial (talk) 19:00, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- The exact difference of what I was trying to add are here. The majority of the text and dates come from either leginfo.ca.gov or oag.ca.gov which I assume would be credible and valid references. Especially considering the reference listed currently is a dead link. PS: I understand the original research concerns from previous posts and the YouTube wasn't necessarily meant to be a source but I understand that concern as well. My last edit has none of that so I wasn't sure if I was missing something. Machx0r (talk) 19:56, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- You're doing the right things now, discussing on the Talk page, trying to reach consensus, etc. I would say that if you search Google News(if media outlets are reporting on this), you might find a secondary source or two. I think if you read more of the original research info, you will get to primary and secondary sourcing section. People can pick and choose what they want to from primary sources(selectively, with bias), but if there are secondary sources that confirm this, it's more likely to gain consensus. Thanks. - Our restrictions against OR and more relevantly synthesis in BLPs are strict. You need a reliable source that advances the same position and makes the same argument before you can add to a BLP. Use of primary sources (like laws, court documents, regulations) are highly discouraged, and are forbidden if it discloses personal details. See WP:BLPPRIMARY. LK (talk) 03:04, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- I understand the restrictions. However in the case that the sub-topic is regarding a law that was written by the subject of the BLP then isn't using a copy of that law as a primary source perfectly relevant and appropriate? Maybe I'm missing something... Machx0r (talk) 04:12, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Previous suggested edits aside the current version of the section is now even further out of date as SB249 was held by the appropriations committee http://sd08.senate.ca.gov/news/2012-08-15-assault-weapon-bill-held-committee http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2012/08/leland-yee-bill-targeting-military-style-guns-dies-in-committee.html http://www.ibabuzz.com/politics/2012/08/15/yees-sb-249-bullet-button-ban-looks-dead/ ... I've added the following section regarding Senate Yee's vote on SCA No.5. Senator Yee's votes are part of the public record and SCA No. 5 is a matter that will be of interest to all voters of California.
- On January 30, 2014, Senator Yee voted in favor of California Senate Constitutional Amendment 5.[1][2] The proposed bill asks California voters to repeal provisions of Proposition 209 and permit state universities to consider an applicant's race, ethnicity or national origin in making admissions decisions.
ContinentalAve (talk) 20:31, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- And I've removed it once again. If you can't find an English secondary source to indicate the importance of this vote to the life of this living subject, then it should not be added. Also, since you have obviously seen the recent attempts to add this, first get Talk page consensus. Thanks. Dave Dial (talk) 21:04, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- DD2K: Your objections are not supported by Wikipedia's guidelines.
- There is no bar against the use of primary sources, especially the law and legislative documents. The bill cited here indicates the substance of Senate Amendment No. 5 and Senator Yee's vote. WP:BLPPRIMARY deals with the misuse of primary sources to disclose private, personal information, which is not at issue here.
- There is no bar against the citation of non-English sources. See Non-English sources (Citations to non-English sources are allowed.) Sen. Yee is a prominent Chinese-American public official and his public conduct has attracted coverage from Chinese language news media, which are valid sources.
- Due and undue weight (what you cite as importance) is itself a sub-rule under neutrality, which requires giving various viewpoints proportional coverage. The text here mentions only Sen. Yee's vote, and describes the legislation in neutral terms. It does not pass judgment on the legislation. Sen. Yee is a legislator and his legislative work is relevant to his public bio. This article contains a long litany of Senator Yee's legislative efforts and SCA5, which has attracted significant media coverage, is only the latest example. Moreover, because this legislation proposes to have voters decide a referendum, it is of importance to the public to know how their elected officials voted on the question.
- Given that English language sources also exists, I have restored the passage that you removed with the English source added. ContinentalAve (talk) 23:36, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- You are definitely wrong about primary sourcing. You cannot pick and choose legislation from the website you first gave and add them to BLP articles. There must be secondary sourcing to even consider whether the vote has enough Weight to add to an article. And of course some non-English sources are allowed, but under certain criteria and circumstances. Not to a BLP article about a USA politician, without secondary English sources. If the issue is not prominent enough to have English sourcing, it fails Weight issues right away. As you have provided a neutral worded entry, from an English source, I won't contest the addition. But you should be aware that using meat-puppets or Sock-puppets to force something into an article will get you blocked. There is pretty clear evidence that is happening here, but I won't pursue the issue at this time. Good day. Dave Dial (talk) 00:15, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- We're talking about the biography of a legislator and legislature's website contains the official record of his bills and votes. So it is hardly surprising that this article is replete with citations to legislation. To make the point more obvious -- Have you not seen the U.S. Constitution cited? It is a primary source. How could you presume that only English sources about American politicians could contain relevant information worthy of Wikipedia? As noted above, Sen. Yee is a Chinese-American and the subject of many stories only in the Chinese American media. To confine readers only to what is published in the English language press would unduly limit the body of knowledge available on Wikipedia. Lastly, one of the Five Pillars of Wikipedia is civility. I noticed your repeated rejection of efforts by other(s) to write about this issue on technical grounds so I undertook to make a conforming edit. I don't know if I can allay your skepticism, but for all those out there following this dialogue, let me make clear that I am a distinct user with no association with any of the other contributors who attempted to write about this topic. You should know that it is quite possible for more than one person in the real world to see the need to make a certain edit to a Wikipedia article. Regards. I dont see how the 4 items under this heading are controversies. for 3 of them, his actions werent controversial, it was other peoples actions which were controversial. and the fourth is not a controversy, its a legal matter, perhaps surprising or shocking. Apparent Factual Error: Name of Middle School
The article presently states: "Yee attended San Francisco's Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School..." How can that be possible? If he was born in 1948, he would have been Middle School age BEFORE the school was renamed in honor of Dr. King. (Who was assassinated in April. 1968.)
What was the name of that Middle School before it was re-named? I couldn't find that with a web search.
Obviously, the article needs to read something like: "Yee attended San Francisco's ______________________ Middle School (which was later re-named Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School)..."
