Location

[edit]

I removed the following:

Although the surrounding area is in North Somerset, the suburb of Leigh Woods is actually within the Bristol city boundary.

Because when you cross the bridge, within about fifty yards you come to a sign saying "Welcome to North Somerset", and because IIRC, the boundary marked on Ordnance Survey maps follows the Avon continuously. Does anybody have any evidence to the contrary? Joe D (t) 03:03, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changed "motorcross" circuits to "mountain biking" circuits, as that's what they are. -- chris t. 15:15, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

detail

[edit]

More is needed on the layout of the Woods - I've added Paradise Bottom, and Nightingale Valley (NB get the right one!), but Stokeleigh Camp needs adding or cross-referencing by someone who's been there in the last twenty years.

NB - so much of the useful detail is in the Avon Gorge article and not in this, that a merger (or a clean East Bank/West Bank split) might be the more useful way forward! Linuxlad 21:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nightingale Valley

[edit]

(Originally at User talk:Steinsky)

Isn't NV 'dry' in the technical sense used by geographers? (The description is not original with me). And it does go nearly all the way back to the gates of Ashton Court! (Or did, when I last lived just over the bridge :-)) But I've not changed it (Though I have added a redlink to Stokeleigh Camp, and a comment on the talk page) Bob aka Linuxlad 08:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: "dry" - I'm familiar with the term, but was clarifying that "dry valleys" aren't always actually riverless. However, a link to the dry valley article should be enough, the details aren't needed here.
I removed the Ashton Court reference because I your use of "rises" and "finishes" confused me. As far as I am aware, a river traditionally rises at its spring, and finshes at its mouth -- of course, without a river the situation's a bit different. I'll put the info back, and try and get a less ambiguous phrasing. Joe D (t) 10:54, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What else is needed before a GA nomination?

[edit]

What else do people think is needed to get this article to meet the good article criteria?— Rod talk 14:48, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really a reviewer but I will offer some suggestions. When did it become a National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest? Does it have any other designations? What is the geology? Is there any other important geography of the area? Why are the species growing there? Simply south ...... time, deparment skies for just 9 years 13:22, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestions. The Avon Gorge SSSI was designated in 1952, but I'm having trouble finding a date for the NNR status. Some of the geology is covered in the topography section, anything else might be duplicating the Avon Gorge article - do you think that is needed here?— Rod talk 20:53, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
