Rewrite
[edit]Parts of this article (most notably the Askia portion) aren't written in a formal tone. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hina98 (talk • contribs) 22:39, 13 May 2007 (UTC).
Cool article!
[edit]Great concept for an article! Although the page does need improving, so I'll watch it and try and clean it up a bit as time progresses.Taharqa 20:13, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion
[edit]I wish I would have discovered this article earlier. Good work! However, I do have one suggestion. The purpose of this article, according to the brief intro, is to index myths, fables and legends. So i think the more historic stuff (namely empires) should be removed. Maybe we could put the focus more on stuff like Anansi and folk tales. Just a suggestion. PEACE. Scott Free (talk) 05:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Myths and fables are, essentially, oral history. Legends are fictional stories which have factual aspects. THIS is the place for "historic stuff" that can't be confirmed by modern historical research, such as Po tolo. --Da Stressor 23:26, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Confusing concept
[edit]Is this article supposed to be about African legends or simply assorted historical figures?
Re, the above: I agree with question. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 19:47, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
This article shouldn't exist
[edit]A list of random African leaders and kingdoms crudely labeled "legends" does not belong here. It seems a few well-meaning but misguided people slapped this together a few decades ago and nobody has bothered to delete it.
Re: Noted, here again. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 19:49, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- That seems harshly put, but I mostly agree on the substance. This seems to be just a list of especially notable political leaders (something like 'the top ten greatest African rulers of all time', except that the number isn't limited to exactly ten), but there is no objective criterion by which to decide who is notable enough to be included in such an article. Moreover, the title 'legends of Africa' is unsuitable and misleading - it suggests that the article deals only with stories that are folklore and thus quite possibly not true (which is what I expected to find when I clicked on it), whereas what the article actually contains are, as far as I can see, historical facts. If any of these facts aren't mentioned in other articles about African history, the relevant parts of the text can be preserved by being moved there.--62.73.69.121 (talk) 10:27, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
