Can someone knowledgable on this topic also add information about "Document Retention Notices" and/or "Document Retention Orders". Are they the methods used to issue "Legal Holds" ? Commenter (talk) 21:56, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will do my best to update this in the coming months. Anyone interested in helping can e-mail me directly at jjablonski@goldbergsegalla.com I am a subject matter expert and have a book on Legal Holds being published by ARMA International. Legal-Holds (talk) 01:42, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In my review of this article, and most of the source material to which it is linked, I am unable to locate any actual law requiring an organization to institute a "legal hold" (absent the application of conventional discovery requirements imposed under applicable court rules; see for example the provisions of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure referenced in the article). Thus, the idea that an edict from some corporate counsel invoking a "legal hold" has the force of law appears to have been created out of thin air. The article is not jargon; the topic is a critical issue for all of corporate america and the term "legal hold" is extremely well known in the legal community. There seems to be some original research; however being a named expert on the subject-it certainly should not be deleted.

I am debating listing this article on AfD because it is jargon and appears to be original research. However, it is a topic that probably is encyclopedic, if written the right way. Anyone want to help on this? Fundamentaldan 19:42, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This page does need help

[edit]

Seems like it was written by someone who just heard about this topic and wanted to put a page together. I'd be happy to edit with more info. It's not just jargon and original research. There is plenty of substance that should be discussed here, and I'd be happy to add and or edit, but I'm new at this and have to figure out how to edit the thing.Maynelaw 05:14, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also like to see some information about how legal holds are issued and tracked, and how document retention and destruction policies tie into lit holds. Uxorious2 (talk) 21:04, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stubifying

[edit]

I am stubifying this article. A majority of the "sources"/external links are spam and, for the most part, dead, and the article is better as a stub than it is in its current form. Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 21:13, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
