RESPONSE: That is because it is not a "title" in the "paralegal field." See Business & Professions Code 6400, which shows that under CA law, it is clearly a separate and distinct profession. Paralegals are regulated by Business & Professions Code 6450. The links at the bottom of this page further explain the distinction, as well.

American Centric

This article is American centric because the "Legal Document Preparer" is or may not actually be an American phenomenon due the extreme licensing requirements for attorneys in the United States. The legal document preparer started as a way to get around the extreme licensing requirements by using the pro se doctrine.
