Genres
[edit]I added the genre "progressive rock" because many official album review/music/Christian news websites classify them as a "progressive rock band". I've currently added two references to the article. Here are several more, though, which will hopefully prevent some genre disputes: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
If you have any comments or suggestions about this article in general, leave them here, since I'm closely watching this article and talk page. JamieS93 14:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Sreglov (talk) 09:49, 11 November 2019 (UTC) This is total nonsense. Leeland is definitely NOT progressive rock, they lack typical progressive rock elements. No complex song structures, no odd time signatures, no use of non-typical rock instruments. It's just rock, nothing progressive about this. That doesn't say the music is bad, but it just isn't progressive rock. To be sure, I've listened through their entire catalogue on Spotify. If found one song that could be labeled as progressive (All over the earth, being 8:36, but could just as well fit into the Hillsong tradition of longer songs) On their website they don't present themselves as progressive rock (https://leelandonline.com/about/). The provided links hardly "prevent disputes". Most of the links don't work. The only one directly working is http://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/articles/news/Hit_In_Japan/26860/p1/ and on Artistdirect.com I could find it by searching on Leeland. They indeed state it's progressive rock, though they don't provide any evidence. Artistdirect names "Travis, Coldplay, Delirious, Doves, and Godfrey Birtill" as influences, none of which are progressive rock. I'd vouch for indie rock, if need be. So how does the opionion of as reviewer function as proof, if they don't provide actual evidence apart from naming a label? I'm afraid someone on the way once called it progressive rock and it got stuck somewhere. Problem is: those who say this, probably haven't got a clue of what progressive rock is (maybe they've heard one of Neal Morse's non prog albums and though: hey, if Neal makes progresive rock, then this probably is as well). Wikipedia isn't helped by putting the wrong label on music. The strongest evidence, if you really want a link, is that the band itself doesn't call it progressive rock. Listening through the catalogue will only confirm this. So why, for heaven's sake, would one call it progressive rock if it clearly isn't? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sreglov (talk • contribs) 09:49, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Because a band doesn't decide what genre they want to be thought of, experienced reviewers are used to determine a band's genre. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:05, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
