Industry and Economy

Hope noone objects, but have changed reference from "Leeds International Airport" to "Leeds Bradford International Airport" as no airport exists called "Leeds International Airport". This now links correctly to the article on the airport.

Also changed Leeds Robin Hood Airport. The airport I assume this refers to is not in Leeds not anywhere near Leeds. It is infact Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (www.robinhoodairport.com) and I have amended the name to reflect this. Although I do question the impact this will have upon Leeds Bradford Airport alluded to in the article. The main international airport in the region is in fact Manchester International Airport and is used by far more "loiners" than either LBA or Robin Hood. Manchester Airport is in a different region to Leeds. Leeds is in the Yorkshire and Humber, where LBA is the main airport. More Loiners and people in the region use LBA than Manchester. Leeds airport now offers destinations across Europe, often cheaper than Manchester as well as to some long haul destinations. As a result, in 2008 most people only use Manchester when flying long haul, but most fly short and medium haul around Europe and North Africa, which are easily accessible from Leeds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.209.243.3 (talk) 16:14, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Sea transport...in Leeds?

I note the section on transport states that "Leeds has good connections by road, rail and coach to Hull, only an hour away, from where it is possible to travel to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge by ferry services run by P&O Ferries.".

The same could be said for Bradford, Castleford, Manchester, Halifax, Huddersfield, etc., etc.

As links are provided to various motorways from Leeds which conceivably take the reader to Hull, is this section relevant to Leeds? If no one objects, I'll remove by 28 August 2008 unless objections are posted here before then.

Questionable Edits - Advertising?

Fairly new to editing Wikipedia articles, but I'm sure I've read somewhere that advertising is not permitted. Recent edits [1] and [2] read like adverts, at least to me. Archiving undated items

Does anyone know how to archive the various old discussions which are sitting here because they include unsigned (hence undated) contributions so that the archive mechanism doesn't recognise their antiquity? PamD (talk) 07:06, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

I've done it manually. I think that "Sinebot" will add sigs and dates automatically nowadays, but to be on the safe side please sign and date your contributions, so the archiver can recognise their age! Thanks. PamD (talk) 07:36, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Leeds Born?

I may be wrong, but it's my understanding that both Beryl Burton and Ernie Wise were from the pre-1973 Borough of Morley, not Leeds. (taking into account the original author's definition of 'Leeds').

I think the above is incredibly pedantic, unimportant and immeterial. Essencialy the area in question is now legally Leeds and has since the industrial revelution been at best an extention of Leeds. There has not been a credible gap seperating the two urban areas for about a century, I think it can safely be refered to as Leeds. In any case further to this, surely someone could be considered to be from two places, e.g. Mr A was born in Kidderminster but brought up and spent all his life from the maternity ward onwards in Solihull, where's he from. It may be credible to list him from both, but regardless he would be essencially from Solihull and not Kidderminster as he would have never lived in Kidderminster, never been recorded on the poll tax register (or equivelent) in Kidderminster and never actually lived in Kidderminster, perhaps with no knowledge of Kidderminster, to say he was from Kidderminster would be very misleading.Mtaylor848 (talk)00:07, 27 August 2008
