I am not very familiar with ships, and from this article I am still unsure of what a leeboard is. Could someone describe it in laymen's terms or make a ship diagram that labels it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.65.132.3 (talk) 16:45, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

YES! Please, someone tell me what they are actually for! Cadwaladr (talk) 05:06, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. This page is gobbledygook for landlubbers -- we're not all captains and deckhands :D — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.65.156.149 (talk) 10:04, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Leeboards are no longer common in commercially-built boats, because many people consider them inelegant and awkward. They are far more common in home-built boats, especially the Puddle Duck Racer and stitch and glue type sailboats." What is the source for this? In the Netherlands this is still common and useful for shallow tidal waters like the Wadden or shallow waters in Friesland. Also expensive luxurious sailing ships like Lemsteraak are build with leeboards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A46E:859B:1:4C2C:8F75:4543:B05F (talk) 09:20, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
