Controversy

[edit]

Somebody on the Worker's Party page commented that 'The NCMP seat cannot be given to another opposition party. Has to follow parliamentary rules for the NCMP seat.' I agree wholeheartedly.

Imho, precisely, because there are parliamentary rules, if Lee Lilian was one of the foremost losers, the rules say she has to take it, or simply never have stood as a candidate in the first place! If you get semi-elected like Lee Lilian, yet quit the job before you even start work, you are creating problems for your employer. And your employer here is hardly Ajisen Ramen that hires you as a waitress or Workers' Party that hired you as a public face, your employer here is the Singapore Parliament and the electorate including nearly 20% that bothered voting the Workers' Party. If you throw in the towel in public, Lee Lilian is simply the cause of the dispute in the first place, if you don't penalise her and her child whom was the excuse of her rejection, we are already slighting the Singapore Parliamentary rules and regulations. In fact you should bar Workers' Party and Lee Lilian from running for SMCs in future since they are unwilling to honour their voters by pushing the blame on nearly 70% of the country that voted somebody else!
