Opposition Leadership 18 Mar 2020-24 Mar 2020
[edit]The situation with Mills and Finocchiaro from 18 Mar 2020 to 24 Mar 2020 is rather bizarre. Mills claimed the TA had become the Opposition on 18 Mar, and some sources report that he had, but this is very clearly incorrect because Finocchiaro was still being referred to as such in the Hansard of 20 Mar. Then as of 24 Mar Mills presented a shadow ministry and is noted by Hansard as Opposition Leader, and referred to as such by the government, before Finocchiaro moves her motion that results in her winning the ballot. It isn't clear whether the Government was correct to regard Mills as having become Opposition Leader without a motion, especially as the Assembly later passed a motion that said it was unclear who the Opposition actually was. Perhaps it is best to refer to the Opposition Leadership on 24 Feb 2020 24 Mar 2020 as "disputed", I'm not sure! Therealsleepycat (talk) 13:32, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
I'm also unsure how we should list this. I can't find any external sources on this subject that I can actually access, so I mostly have to rely on Wikipedia itself. Lia Finocchiaro's page lists her as Leader of the Opposition, but Terry Mills's doesn't. However, this page and the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly page list Mills as opposition leader. I think the best way is to list the Leader of the Opposition as Finocchiaro up to 18 March, "disputed" or "unclear" from 18-24 March, and Finocchiaro again after that. This is what I've changed the article to, but others are welcome to suggest alternatives. YttriumShrew (talk) 12:00 AM, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
