Lead wool is still available for purchase and is still used for repairs, despite the toxicity of lead. It appears to be forbidden for use in new work by the National Standard Plumbing Code/NSPC. Instead, the original method of packing in oakum then covering it with molten lead is the approved method. (When did this change? What does this mean for non NSPC locales?)
Also, lead wool also seems to be the innards of flexible protective radiation shields, used in reactor work [1] and probably those used in Dental radiography. Mdwyer (talk) 15:30, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
