[edit]

The Lausiac History is referenced in many Wikipedia articles. I am commencing recording the text of the Lausiac History for LibriVox.org , and they request "Link to title on Wikipedia (if available)" and "Link to author on Wikipedia (if available)"; the link to the author was present but empty, and many links to him are, as I discovered in searching Wikipedia, to the wrong Palladius.

My intention today is to flesh out the life of Palladius of Galatia and to provide a crude, but useful, article on the Lausiac History, which is what has been flagged. Over the next week, I am happy to flesh out a full article on the subject; however, I see no reason to consider what I have written as not being better than nothing: It provides a short, but accurate description of the subject, and provides links to a public domain English translation of the text. If someone thnks it merits deletion, I certainly am taken aback, but so be it.

Later research has very considerably rehabilitated Palladius. The chief authorities now (Butler, Preuschen) consider the "Lausiac History" to be in the main a serious historical document, with as well as an invaluable picture of the lives and ideas of the earliest Christian monks<:ref name="cath">Catholic Encyclopedia</ref>.

The now in this sentence is a century ago, and the source is being tendentious, as often. A book can be both a serious source and a collection of tales about navigating crocodiles. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 14:37, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
