All tables on Wikipedia must be compliant with WP:ACCESSIBILITY, which means the use of 'rowspan' must be limited in any instance where use of rowspan will cause problems with our text-to-speech readership. This is from Wikipedia:Non-discrimination policy. Rowspan is not to be used on a WP:ILIKEIT basis, especially when it contravenes policy. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 16:51, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Since MOS:ACCESS is part of the Wikipedia manual of style it should be followed unless consensus can be formed in an article to ignore it for some article specific good reason. WP:IAR can apply but it still needs to be justified and agreed upon. In this instant case of merging cells far into the table, it makes the table more difficult for screen readers to interpret, serves little purpose other than some aesthetics, and does make table maintenance more difficult. - In terms of the 'Accolades' table, it is sometimes possible to switch the column order to allow for more use of 'rowspan' – but, believe me, I've looked at doing that in the case of this article, and you gain pretty much nothing by doing that here... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 17:38, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
