Untitled
[edit]I have started this article having come accross an advert for Laura Sandys's appearance as a guest speaker at the Luncheon refered to in the article. From the information I've been able to gather so far she is in my opinon borderline notable according to Wikipedia:Criteria_for_inclusion_of_biographies#People_still_alive
- Major local political figures who receive significant press coverage
- Persons achieving renown or notoriety for their involvement in newsworthy events
It could be argued that she's not a [b]major[/b] (Is a prospective parlimentary candidate "major"?) local policital figure and that she has not achieved renown or notoriety through her involvement in newsworthy events. I suggest leaving this article for a bit and seeing if any more can be added. Richard Taylor 01:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Subject of the article editing the article?
[edit]A reverse DNS [1] of the IP address (80.177.169.213) from which a number of edits to this article have been made resolves to laurasandys.demon.co.uk. ie. these edits were made by a person from an Demon internet account with a username of laurasandys. It appears to me highly likely that these edits were made by the subject of the article.
If this is the case then Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons suggests that editors are particularly careful when reinstating material that was removed - as it could be an attempt to "correct inaccuracies, to remove inaccurate or unsourced material, or to remove libel."
Edits by the IP in question
[edit]The first edit - [2]
This edit reordered and rephrased much of the article.
The edit added:
She has been an active member of the Conservative Party since she was born due to having a father who was an MP and Minister.
This to me appears improbable as membership of the Conservative party is not hereditary, and I can't see how a newborn baby can be considered an "active member".
The edit removed a section on Laura Sandys' attempt to become the parliamentary candidate for South Cambridge, this was not referenced so could have been legitimately removed.
The edit removed a section on Laura Sandys Associates, again this was not referenced so could have been legitimately removed, however I have a reliable reference - Laura Sandys' biography at the Open University [3] has been located which I believe can justify the reinstatement of that section.
The edit removed a section stating:
Laura Sandys was shortlisted for two safe seats at the last election. She went attended 14 selection meetings but was not selected by them. [4]
As this was properly referenced by a reliable source I believe this not to be a legitimate edit, and I have already reinstated the facts removed to the article along with the a link to the referenced article.
The edit further removed a section stating:
Later Laura became Head of Communications at the Shopping Hours Reform Council - an organisation which promotes people having Sundays off [5] and `also provided early political experience for the Labour Member of Parliament Janet Anderson
This can also largely be supported by the Open University Biography [6] and the Hansard reference incorporated, the link to Janet Anderson is probably inconsequential and no significant loss to the article.
The second and third edits - the only remaining edits to date by this IP were solely spelling amendments.
I have edited the article in light of the above. Richard Taylor 03:14, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
RFC response
[edit]I have contacted the editor on xer talk page, referencing WP:AUTO and WP:COI. Solid edits, by the way. JChap2007 04:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I see no obvious content concerns per WP:BIO, except perhaps the last paragraph which is WP:OR. I very strongly suggest you all be purely ladies and gentlemen, warmly inviting, and bend-over-backwards accommodating to whatever is the subject's (or her rep's) content concerns here, and make it very clear in plain English how those concerns can be expressed and incorporated into the article. i didn't know that it was not acceptable to edit your own biog - there were some inaccuracies and still are. what do I do about them. I am not the daughter of Diana Churchill - as a result not nearly as illustrious as this site makes me sound.
how do I correct this?

- I would strongly urge you to discuss the inaccuracies on Talk:Laura Sandys. I will fix the references to you being the daughter of Diana Churchill. Should I assume you are Mr. Duncan Sandys's daughter? ObiterDicta ( pleadings • errata • appeals ) 23:52, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
The Hon. Laura Sandys
[edit]As far as I am aware, Laura Sandys is the natural child of Baron Duncan-Sandys of Westminster. She should therefore be headlined as The Hon. Laura Sandys as this is her correct title as the daughter of a baron.Oinky (talk) 21:16, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
Pro EU Conservative
[edit]Rather unusually for Conservative MPs nowadays Sandy is a member of the pro-EU, European Movement. Indeed, she is the Chairman, or Chairperson as its called.(Coachtripfan (talk) 12:33, 26 December 2014 (UTC))
