Donation of Constantine?

[edit]

The sentence in the first paragraph; "who in turn gave it to the Christian Church in 311." Does this refer to the Donation of Constantine? If so, the article should be changed, because the Donation of Constantine is known to be a forgery. If it does not some source should be added to backup the claim that the Lateran was given to the Church in 311 by Constantine.

Inscription and location

[edit]

This article says that the inscription is "at the base of the columns on either side of the central entrance door", and reads "SACROS LATERAN ECCLES OMNIUM URBIS ET ORBIS ECCLESIARUM MATER ET CAPUT". But the Lateran Palace section of the Basilica of St. John Lateran article states "the words Sacrosancta Lateranensis ecclesia omnium urbis et orbis ecclesiarum mater et caput are incised in the main door". Which of these is correct, or are both correct? --Blainster 04:29, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Proposal

[edit]

I propose to merge Lateran council and Lateran to better add to the contents and history about the Lateran. With this merging these 2 articles will also help readers to understand with clarity the history of the Lateran plaza and it's use in the Catholic Church starting from the Fist Lateran Council to the 4th Lateran Council. I hope this merger suggestion gains support to better clarify, and clearly acknowledge the history of the Lateran, while minimizing stub articles.
