very important subject
[edit]This book and it's subject matter should be rated very important. With all the focus on the black book of communism and the crimes of stalinist governments, there is very little information putting it into perspective. While the ussr and china's governments committed crimes, they were also successfully engaged in greatly increasing their life expectancies from about 35 to about 70. Meanwhile, the british and other imperialists had controlled vast swaths of the world where they presided over even larger amounts of death by starvation and treatable disease, while doing as little as possible to increase the life expectancy. This is at the center of the debate between socialism and capitalism, the main divide in the 20th century, so we deserve to have serious information on it.-(71.202.180.190 (talk) 00:05, 9 August 2008 (UTC))
Why is a book report posted in Wikipedia?!
[edit]If someone wants to write a review of a contemporary book, they should post it on Amazon.com. Wikipedia is not the place to post reviews of contemporary books. Books of lasting and widespread influence -- e.g., the Bible, The Wealth of Nations, etc. -- might merit a review in Wikipedia, but not a contemporary book, the conclusions and influence of which have not been tested by time.
This "article" should be deleted. Cwkmail (talk) 19:21, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
I concur. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - NOT a book review. This page should be deleted from wiki and placed on back on Amazon.com where it belongs. 98.219.250.176 (talk) 07:52, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
non-NPOV
[edit]There is very little information in this article that is NPOV or notable. Maybe the book is notable, but as Cwkmail wrote, the article, at this point, is a book report; and a poor one at that.
important subject, badly covered
[edit]Whoever wants to delete this article obviously wants to cover up imperialisms' mass murders, as there is no comparable article about this. 30-60 million people deliberately killed, written about in a scholarly book that is taught in universities and you think the article should be deleted? Wow. If you have read any of the book, you will see much of its evidence comes from direct statements by the British government, so it is definitely not just a conspiracy theory. That being said, the article is flawed. It should not be organized into a chapter by chapter overview, that is inappropriate. As for the NPOV claim, that will probably remain as some people will never want to use the word "imperialism" to describe imperialism, or to have these events described even if it is thoroughly documented. Having read some of this book, I doubt anyone who has read any of it could say the conclusions of it are not factual.-(141.218.226.18 (talk) 08:51, 27 September 2009 (UTC))
Removed POV
[edit]I have removed the POV portions and the review portions. Have added infobox, publication history and awards won with proper references. I have restructured the article to state what the book is about and not present the conclusions the book draws as fact. If you want to add more details on the books subject please make use of NPOV and quotes. In case of criticism (there are reviews questioning the facts and conclusions drawn in the web) please add a criticism section with proper references.
