- URGENT, PLEASE NOTE that Larry Di Ianni is the only Hamilton mayor convicted, on multiple charges, of violations of Ontario's Municipal Elections Act--regarding illegal donations to his 2003 election campaign. By the time of the Hamilton city election day in November, 2003, he'd collected less than half of what his campaign spent, and about 25% of what he had by then collected was challenged successfully in court prosecution and found to be illegal. Readers of this site will have difficulty finding this public info elsewhere in Wikipedia, but it is all on the public record in the daily newspaper, The Hamilton Spectator. Di Ianni was defeated as a Hamilton mayoral candidate in both 2006 and 2010. He also ran in the 2008 Canadian federal election as a Liberal candidate for Parliament (the House of Commons) in a Hamilton, Ontario, area constituency, and was defeated: In that 2008 federal election, Di Ianni was the candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Canadian federal riding [i.e. constituency] of Hamilton East-Stoney Creek; he lost the race to the incumbent member, New Democratic Party candidate Wayne Marston, by a margin of 6,464 votes. (Marston continues to hold that seat having been re-elected in Canada's federal general election in May, 2011.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.104.139.169 (talk) 17:45, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
On Oct 23 someone changed an edit claiming that it was redundant. That is of course silly since the current entry contained no info about this person's 2006 mayoral loss. Friends or Wiki protecting this ?? Yes Yes Yes!!
How did the subject of this article get Wikipedia to sanitize his bio? Looking at some of the accurate and sourced info posted in 2010 to the Di Ianni bio leading up to his defeat at the polls, again, makes everybody who knows him figure that he's got inside pull at Wikipedia--or else how did recent real history about the guy get purged so he looks like a near saint?
Violations of the Municipal Elections Act
[edit]I have clarified the background on the violations of the act and subsequent charges. The way it was worded before was not clear. I also included the information that two of the other candidates were also charged from the same election.
I also added correct sources to all of the stories.
