Examples ?

[edit]

The only example of a Laplacian vector field that I can think of would be a constant one. Are there other examples? Pmurray bigpond.com 23:42, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, any electrostatic field must be irrotational in order to be conservative, and it will be divergenceless in regions of zero charge-density. So if these are the criteria, any electrostatic field in regions containing no charge (and by analogy, any (Newtonian) gravitational field in a region containing no mass). --catslash 14:29, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Intended revisions

[edit]

Hi, great work on the article. I am planning to make some revisions. This article is a stub and needs more information. For explaining the math concepts, I plan to use the following three sources:

http://www.brennen.caltech.edu/FLUIDBOOK/basicfluiddynamics/potentialflow.htm

Claycomb, J. L. "Vector Calculus." Mathematical Methods for Physics: Using MATLAB and Maple. Mercury Learning & Information, 2018.

https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/2-016-hydrodynamics-13-012-fall-2005/resources/2005reading4/

I want to add more citations. These sources are great and support what is already written, and I can expand by including more information, and a section on applications and further reading for current use of Laplacian vector fields in science, such as

Choi, Hon F., and Silvia S. Blemker. "Skeletal Muscle Fascicle Arrangements Can Be Reconstructed Using a Laplacian Vector Field Simulation." PLoS ONE, vol. 8, no. 10, 2013, pp. 1–7. EBSCOhost; Academic Search Premier, doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0077576.
