Naming

[edit]

I am not so certain that this sound was named after the Lancaster aircraft manufactured by Avro. The article on William Baffin states that it and Jones Sound were named after patrons of Baffin's voyages.

I have an old Grade 5 history book dating from the 1960s or 1950s that itself refers to Baffin's discovery of Lancaster and Jones sounds. Is it at all possible that the Lancaster was named after the sound, or more likely, that they are independently named, centuries apart, after coincidental different Lancasters?
