Not Statilius Lamprias

[edit]

I'm pretty sure that the relatively recent alteration that names Lamprias, Plutarch's grandfather, as Statilius Lamprias is incorrect. There are several people named Statilius Lamprias and one of the revision notes points at a legit citation (https://www.jstor.org/stable/30102828). However this appears to be just a confusion names: if Lamprias had been a Roman citizen then Plutarch and his father would have inherited the name Statilius as well. Since Plutarch got his citizenship (the first in the family) from Mestrius Soclarus he used that as his Latin name.

We should probably also have separate stubs for Lamprias the grandfather, Lamprias the brother, and Lamprias the maybe-spurious son who supposedly compiled the Lamprias catalogue.
