Since when is this a neighborhood?

I've never heard of it, having lived in Oakland for decades. This neighborhood is either referred to as "downtown" or "Lake Merritt." There are no references on the web that don't trace back to this article. Apparently the user who created this entry (and invented the neighborhood!) has disappeared. I have changed the language to reflect the fact that this is just a tiny area that the vast majority of Oaklanders have never heard of. - - Ok "Lagringa," you got questions, I got answers: if you go down to the Oakland main library and chat up a reference librarian, she or he can point you in the proper diection on this. During a City of Oakland Cultural Heritage Survey in the early 80's, five blocks of this neighborhood to include 27 buildings, were designated to be a part of the historic "Lakeside Apartments District." Aren't most of them therefore worth saving for that reason alone so that working class folks, single mothers, veterans, and seniors can have an affordable place to live near mass transit and the healthful beauty of Lake Merritt? Agustus or August Schilling?

I have found a lot of references to August Schilling, the spice magnate. We know he was born in Germany; naturally, his birth name could have been more Germanic than the Anglicized August, a variant of Augustus (Caesar). What source states the spelling of his name as Agustus? I can't find it. And why would we want to use Schilling's birth name spelling when his fame came while he was known as August Schilling? Peer Review Request Lakeside Apartments District, Oakland, California

I'm humbly asking for your considered opinion with my peer review request for the Lakeside Apartments District, Oakland, California page. I've listed this article for peer review because, at present the City of Oakland's Planning Commission and City Council is revising zoning and height regulations for new land development (i.e. skyscrapers) in the neighborhood. Currently, much public attention is focused on this neighborhood in the Hearing Rooms at City Hall down the street, around in the conference tables of local investment banks, and kitchen tables of local activists. Having spent many hours editing it, I'd hope this article reflects a modicum of accuracy and good encyclopedic writing.Critical Chris (talk) 20:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
