Controversy over golf course
[edit]I just wanted to drop a note here to let editors know that the Hiawatha Golf Course has been at the center of a controversy over a proposal to reduce the size of the course (see this article, for example). Some people involved in the debate have been trying to craft a false narrative about the history of the course in order to bolster their claims. So if you see battling edits cropping up, now you know why anyone would be invested in this topic. I've been involved in advocacy on this issue so I am not unbiased, but I promise to make only edits that are factually verifiable.
There are currently some claims in the article about Hiawatha being the first integrated course in the area, which I am going to remove. If you read the nomination for historic designation, for example, you will find that other municipal courses in Minneapolis and St. Paul were hosting black golfers well before Hiawatha GC opened in 1934.
