I think that Wikipedia should not simply buy into legend. This is half acknowledged in the 'Backgroud' paragraph, but the heading "mac Nad Froich" reinforces the problem. If it is to stay, surely it should be in quotation marks or some such.

Angus mac Nad Froich's reign was approximately 453-489 - so he was no youngster when he died. [Let us estimate a latest birth at c430 and so his father (Nad Froich) at c410. In practice both these fates are likely to be too recent.] Even if we were to allow that Laisren as a brother of Angus might be born quite a lot later than Angus himself (say 450?) to suggest that he lived until 564 - making him well over 110 years old - is just plain ridiculous. The real implication is that he was nearer 130. Something has to give.

EITHER he was "mac Nad Froich" OR he died in 564.

I am not sufficiently qualified to be too assertive here - but I suspect that the 564 date is probably not too far off the mark - which would make the "mac Nad Froich" bit nonsense. A more likely birth epoch for Laisren would be 480/490. Thus if he is correctly linked to Nad Froich's family then Laisren would have had to have been a grandson of Angus. [I suppose he could have been the son of a younger-generation and otherwise unrecorded Nad Froich namesake.]

Separately I am disappointed to see no reference to his legendary connection with Holy Island off the coast of Arran in the Firth of Clyde where it is held locally that he spent some time as a hermit (and whence the settlement name Lamlash). Freuchie (talk) 08:14, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
