ending -au

Are we sure about this being a feature of Alsatian? There are many such toponyms in Bavaria (Lindau, Dachau...), and indeed the Duden says it comes from Middle High German ouwe and Old High German ouwa = "Land im oder am Wasser"; for modern usage it actually labels "-au" as a "Southern German / Austrian" word. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.40.164.27 (talk) 17:56, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
