On La Plata, Argentina as the namesake for the city

[edit]

La Plata, Argentina was founded in 1882, so La Plata, Missouri couldn't have been named after it. The quoted source for that claim (Our Storehouse of Missouri Place Names) doesn't seem to claim that the city was specifically named after the Argentine city, only that it was named after a place in South America (p.28). If that source is correct, then it could be referring to La Plata, Bolivia, the old name for Sucre, used until 1839. 186.22.62.105 (talk) 20:41, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
