[edit]The entire article only talks about the pollution and not about the city itself Vivaperucarajo (talk) 05:54, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
I have rewritten the whole article to include something about the town and a lot about the smelter, its problems and the improvements it has made so far. It becomes very irritating when the environmental lobby rants on about the emissions that are stil occurring without acknowledging what has been done so far and evidently without any idea of what is involved in achieving this or what is being done to improve things further. It will take years to remedy problems such as the blood lead levels and to clean up the lead poisoned soil in and around the city, which is mainly Centromin's resposibility, not Doe Run's. There are no instant solutions.Egoli (talk) 11:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your edits; I think they've been overall helpful. I cleaned up a lot of the text to improve readabiliy. I also removed the Financial section because most of it appears to have been stated earlier, as well as the "Outlook" section, which appears to be an editorial. Otherwise, I think the article is improved!Athene cunicularia (talk) 17:39, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- I guess it reads better but you have introduced a few technical mistakes which I will correct as soon as I can. I think at least part of the financial section should be put back because the set up of the environmental trust is a dramatic change. It ensures completion of the PAMA and removes widespread suspicion that Renco was siphoning off funds that should be going towards pollution alleviation. Egoli (talk) 10:32, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I just removed the information because it seemed repetitive. Perhaps if you add the section back, you can remove the area(s) where the information is said before the section.Athene cunicularia (talk) 17:31, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Quite right, it was at least partially repetitive. You will see the alterations I have made. I have replaced US before all dollar signs; there are, after all, another 21 dollars in the world. The denuded hills are in the immediate vicinity of the smelter. Two miles upstream in the American camp all is green and unchanged, except that the river is horribly polluted, mainly by the Cerro De Pasco mine. Four miles below the mine at Colquijirca the tributary Rio San Juan runs bright red.Egoli (talk) 14:52, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
- Very nice, thanks!Athene cunicularia (talk) 19:58, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
