Railway Magazine
[edit]AFAICR each year's issues used to be bound into one volume and published early in the following year. The reference for James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose (reference [2] at the time of posting) is in this format. It's collected from a Google "snippet view", which hasn't got the full extract.--217.155.32.221 (talk) 21:43, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- I've now tracked down the actual issue—February 1994--217.155.32.221 (talk) 22:17, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- Railway Magazine did at one time number its pages in sequence from issue to issue, so that page numbers were unique within a volume. This practice ceased at the end of 1991 (vol. 137); from the start of 1992 (vol. 138), page numbering restarted at 1 for each monthly issue. Another change that happened at the same time was that all pages were given Arabic numbers, with the front cover being p. 1 - previously, the cover and a few pages at the start and end of each issue (those containing only advertising) were not numbered in the main sequence but had lowercase Roman numbers (i, ii, iii, iv etc.) for their page numbers. Binding, then as now, was offered as an optional service to readers who sent in their separate issues, you couldn't buy a year's bound volume without having bought the separate issues first.
- Regarding this edit. First, Railway Magazine is not an academic journal, so
{{cite journal}}
is inappropriate - magazines should use{{cite magazine}}
. Second, I have the February 1994 issue, and although it does have an article titled "The Rare Ones" (on pp. 60-63), that article has no mention of 3442, the origin of its name, nor even of any member of the K4 class. I'm therefore altering the{{full}}
tag to{{fv}}
. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:21, 13 August 2019 (UTC)- I've deleted it, with apologies. My source was the blurb in an advert for an old copy of that particular edition. Lucky I didn't send off for it! Now there's Nock's book as a reference perhaps there's no need to reinstate the reference to that year's omnibus edition. Thanks for pointing out the difference between {{cite journal}} and {{cite magazine}}--217.155.32.221 (talk) 21:18, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
- OK. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:44, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
