[edit]LMFAO!LMFAO= MEANS: Laugh My Friends Attic On!! :)
Yeah I think it is what they had in mind when they founded the group. The story behind it is, that they were looking for a band name and one of the band members had an internet chat conversation with his grandma and after he told her one of his ideas about a possible band name (I don't actually remember what was his first idea) his grandma responded with "*lmfao*" which you can call chat-code or chat-slang. And the band members found that so funny that an elder lady had used that chat-slang, that they descided to take this as their band name.
Has anybody a reference for that? We should put this fact to the artice. Actually I already expected it there.

[edit]This group also has no wiki page :P and i spent a good amount of time searching for them on wikipedia before creating this page.

Hi. You may be missing the point of why I suggested deletion - Wikipedia is not designed for advertising up and coming groups, regardless of how good you personally may think they are. Wikipedia is here to provide information about sarahs mum in bed. (amongst other things) groups that are already notable. There are a basic set of criteria that groups are expected to meet before they can be considered for inclusion - these are detailed here :WP:BAND, and I can see nothing that indicates that this group currently meets these criteria - that's not to say they won't in the future. If you can provide evidence that they meet one of the criteria listed on that page, I'll happily remove the deletion tag. CultureDrone (talk) 10:11, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Origination contradiction
[edit]In the intro, it states that LMFAO comes from LA, but the info box says they come from the Central California Coast. LA is not part of the Central Ca coast, so one of these is wrong.

LMFAO (group) → LMFAO – This is the only thing on the wiki with the exact name LMFAO. Anyone looking for the "variant of LOL" can be guided there with a hatnote. Also, 1.) there are several inbound links to LMFAO meant to refer to the band, and 2.) "(group)" is not a valid disambiguator. Since this is the only thing with that exact name, let's not beat around the bush. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 04:43, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

- If it were the primary topic, then it'd have its own article. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 00:12, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose per Powers. We have an article with information about the primary usage, it should therefore redirect there. Or are you saying that every single primary topic should be a separate article, such as articles whose subjects have multiple names, so we should have a copy of that article at each name variant? 70.24.247.40 (talk) 07:01, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Can you move to LMFAO?
[edit]Create a new article about the variant of LOL and move LMFAO (group) to LMFAO. I belive refering to the band is the most common use of the term LMFAO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hillcrest98 (talk • contribs) 00:42, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Move or otherwise disambiguate
[edit]I strongly agree with the sentiments expressed in the move petition above. LMFAO_(group) is a primary subject and the recipient of significant media attention. Searching for "LMFAO" results only in "variant of LOL" - in order to reach LMFAO (group), one must know to append "(group)", which many users may not. If a move is not the right action, a disambiguation page should be created.Ekips (talk) 14:50, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
- No, one must not know any such thing, since this article is prominently linked at the top of the "Variants of LOL" section. Powers T 18:00, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
I prefer that a disambugation page be created. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hillcrest98 (talk • contribs) 01:53, 1 October 2011 (UTC) like hello do you no who this is ( hahahahahahahaha) Lmfao is an american electro pop rapper song writer dancer xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo I LOVE LMFAO HAHA

Time for a reality check?
[edit]I've read all of the preceding posts, and while I don't disagree with the logic, the current implementation is just silly.
Imagine I come to Wikipedia looking to read about my new favorite band LMFAO.
I type LMFAO into the search bar and hit enter, and I'm taken to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMFAO
the page for LOL, which tells me I've been redirected from LMFAO and does not link to a LMFAO disambiguation page, only a LOL disambiguation page, which does not contain any link to LMFAO the band:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOL_%28disambiguation%29
I have to scroll down past the intro, Analysis, Spread from written to spoken communication, Acceptance, and Lexical Form sections before I get to something that, oh by the way, tells me that if I want the music group I should click here.
Guys (and dolls), that's simply too much.
Either put an immediate link at the top of the LOL page to LMFAO band, or link LMFAO directly to the band and add a disambig link BACK to LOL if people wanted that. If I google "LMFAO" I don't get the acronym or pages and pages about laughing out loud, I get the band. Why can't Wikipedia get it right as well? The Masked Booby (talk) 12:32, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Normal browser behavior should mean that the LMFAO redirect goes directly to the "Variants" section of the LOL page, where there is a hatnote that says "'LMFAO' redirects here. For the music group, see LMFAO (group)." It doesn't get much more immediate than that. Powers T 17:28, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- I was looking for information about the group. I initially assumed there was no article about, since I was redirected to LOL. I eventually found this page by happy accident. --193.160.157.241 (talk) 14:27, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how much more prominent we could make the "For the music group, see LMFAO (group)" phrasing. Powers T 19:20, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

That's still the primary topic, no matter how many bands appropriate the use for their name. Powers T 18:18, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

- Support. This is really a WP:TWODABS issue. Although the term happens to be one of many examples of Internet speak, the primary actual thing to which it refers is the band. Readers will be no more inconvenienced going to the band page and following a hatnote there than they would be coming to a disambig page. bd2412 T 17:44, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support per BD2412. Unreal7 (talk) 18:18, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support on the basis of WP:TWODABS, and because it seems far more reasonable to cater to users who are looking up an encyclopedic topic about which we have an appropriately large amount of information, than to a presumably smaller group of users who are looking in Wikipedia for a dictionary definition and will find, again appropriately, only that definition and nothing else. Just because in common parlance people may be USING the term "LMFAO" as an acronym more than in reference to the group, doesn't mean that the acronym is the topic more likely and reasonably sought in an encyclopedia. Theoldsparkle (talk) 14:47, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support - these guys are still around, and only more well-known compared to the last time this came up. It's time to give up the fight, folks. Times have changed. The Masked Booby (talk) 03:26, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

- Support - A hatnote will suffice. Marcus Qwertyus 17:37, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support also per the handful of incoming mainspace Wikilinks, which all intend the band. Note that the edit history at LFMAO might need to be split; there was an article on the band there that ended up redirecting per the 2008 AFD. -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:16, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect explaination of group name
[edit]It states that the groups name is internet slang for Laughing My F*cking Ass Off, then states that the group said the initials stand for "Loving My Friends And Others". This does not make grammatical sense. LMFAO may also mean something else to others, but the band has clearly stated what it means and I fail to understand why it still states that their name "means" something different. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.7.158.28 (talk) 10:01, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I agree, saying they are on 'hiatus' might mislead people.
