- I might review this in the future, but for now, I have to say that the current hook doesn't really appeal to a broad audience. Unless the reader is familiar with the names mentioned, the hook doesn't seem significant or interesting. Can something else be proposed here? A QPQ is also needed. - ALT1: that DJ Marky had to pay Jorge Ben royalties for LK (Carolina Carol Bela) after it was played in America and Jorge's son heard it?--Launchballer 16:18, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
- Probably better, but it might need clarifications on who these names are for those unfamiliar with them. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:04, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

I've been thinking about this for a while and while I like the direction, I do admit it's a bit clunky. I wonder if there's a way to make it more concise while still making it accessible to people unfamiliar with the names given (which is why I don't think ALT1 as currently written should be the option). - Almost there, it just needs to be clarified that it was Ben's son who heard the song. If I were you, what I could do is to make the hook passive (as in, mention Jorge Ben's son first) then put the song name at the end, mainly to avoid the clunky wording and avoid ambiguity. - I think ALT4 works but as I've admittedly somewhat delayed this nomination and honestly felt that I made it more of a mess than it should be, I am recusing myself and asking for a new reviewer to take over. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:59, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
- QPQ needs to be provided within 7 days of nominating. This was nominated 30 days ago. I suggest we close this unless a QPQ turns up forthwith. Schwede66 19:51, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

- Did some WP:verifying that kind of ended up belying these hooks; the source (
“Jorge Ben’s son, Gabriel, heard the track in the clubs, it had reached America by that stage, so we had to pay them for the rights. That said, Toquinho didn’t charge us anything. He lives close to me, he’s a gentle soul. Anyway, we got it cleared, which was great – it’s a lot more difficult to get samples cleared these days.
) does not unambiguously say that royalties were actually paid. So probably want a hook in another vein altogether. Nevertheless I can give approval for everything else – length, newness, no copyvio, cites (though the use of inlines a bit funky). Proposing this hook for a second set of eyes to approve:
- ALT6: ... that after freestyling over the instrumental track "LK (Carolina Carol Bela)", Stamina MC was asked to record official vocals for it?
- Sources: 1:
"it was a bit of vocal that [mainstay d&b MC] Stamina had been doing over the top of the track, so we immediately got him into the studio to record a final version and put that out."
2:I played Linden [Stamina MC] the track, and he started freestyling over it ... ‘Something amazing is happening, and we need to bring Stamina into the studio right now!’ That’s how we ended up putting it down, and it just blew up.

- Haha, nothing of importance –
"Carolina Carol Bela",[2] the B-side[1] of "Que Maravilha".[4]
just funny to see very specific facts per citation. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 12:53, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- As written, [4] implies "Que Maravilha/Carolina Carol Bela" was a double A-side, and [1] doesn't mention "Que Maravilha", so I need both.--Launchballer 13:32, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Some confusing bits
[edit]I have added some WS and other trivial cleanup. But I'm having trouble parsing some of the body. Perhaps some clarification?
- LK was made in 2002 after DJ Marky gave up on recreating Ed Rush and Optical's Wormhole.
I take this to mean DJ Marky was working on another song but didn't finish it. If so, I'm not sure why this is mentioned at all. It doesn't seem to be connected in any way?
- LK was originally an instrumental, apart from muted vocal samples towards the end, was recorded in XRS's studio, and samples Toquinho & Jorge Ben's "Carolina Carol Bela", the B-side of "Que Maravilha".
This is confusing... were the "muted vocal samples" recorded in XRS's studio? Or was the whole song recorded there? Is this saying:
- LK was recorded in XRS's studio. It was originally an instrumental, apart from muted vocal samples towards the end and samples from Toquinho & Jorge Ben's "Carolina Carol Bela", the B-side of "Que Maravilha".
If this is a correct reading, what is the difference between "muted vocal samples" and "samples from Toquinho..."? Are these both references to the same samples, or is it that DJ Marky added some vocal samples of his own?
- After coming back from XRS' studio, DJ Marky walked in on his mother washing up, and gave the track the working title "Liquid Kitchen".
Which, I assume, is the "LK". But I'm confused about the "(Carolina Carol Bela)" part of the name... I see where it comes from, but I'm not sure why it is in the title of the article? I'm not familiar with D&B, is this a sort of "featuring" name drop?
- After finding crowds were singing "It's the Way" during performances, they brought Stamina MC into the studio to record an official version
Ok, here's my real confusion. Who "brought Stamina MC into the studio". Who is "they"? Am I correct that DJ Marky decided to record a new version of the song, and invited Stamina MC to work on that version with him?
- The track has been described as "seminal" by NME."
Seminal in what context? Did it launch a new style of music? DJ Marky's career? I'm the seminal me, but I suspect there is more to it than that. Maury Markowitz (talk) 16:23, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- The best articles usually give a small amount of background for historical context, so if that's what Marky was doing before compiling LK, then this article should probably mention it. The vocals also come from "Carolina Carol Bela" and I've updated the article accordingly. It was my understanding that DJs played instrumentals and wore noise-cancelling headphones, so presumably had no idea what Stamina MC was up to, and that all he did in the studio was annotate the existing instrumental with his vocals. I also assumed NME meant "seminal" as influential.--Launchballer 12:27, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
