How to handle multiple designations
[edit]I need to ask what the procedure is in regards to multiple designations - in this case, changing designations as the craft proceeded through its short service life.
Right now we have LBD-1 redirecting to LBD Gargoyle which makes sense, however Boeing's website refers to four other designations as well KSD-1, KUD-1, RTV-2 and RTV-N-2. If nothing else, these designations should redirect to this page and the various designations listed.
"It was redesignated as a KSD-1 anti-shipping missile in 1945, but World War II ended before it was deployed. It then became a research vehicle and designated KUD-1, which first flew in July 1946. McDonnell produced 250 Gargoyles before production ended in mid-1947. The remaining missiles, redesignated as RTV-2 in September 1947 and RTV-N-2 in early 1948, were used to test components for other guided missile programs." Backing this up reasoning for research purposes, my father who served in the Marines as an aircraft mechanic starting in 1947 had a maintenance manual for the Grumman F8F Bearcat that gave a list of parts needed in order to attach the KSD-1 for wartime operations - I assume the missile was planned to enter service at the time of the manual's creation - unfortunately, my father has passed and said manual is long since gone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BGinOC (talk • contribs) 02:49, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
